This has been up on the Bay quite a few times. Disregard it. It is a phony.

Chris...Click on the link...I was shocked too

P.S. Patrick...Why does the Benji guitar make you mad? It's clear to me that you don't like Good Charlotte, but guess what? Over 5 million people seem to like them alot. Enough to by over 5 million cd's. We are a business. We want to sell guitars. We have several models of GREAT guitars. I have played Benji's guiatrs...I do the set up work for his personal guitars before they leave the factory. Like him or not, they are very cool guitars, as are the rest of our instruments..guitars, basses, sig models or not. Benji played our guitars before his sig model came out, and before he was a sponsored artist. We are a business. Can you think of a better way to get our name out there than this? This is not an attack on you..I understand your passion for our basses, I just want to explain(from my point of view) why this guitar is being made....It's all music...It's all good...PEACE! :D

I wonder if "negro1701" will be dropping by this forum anytime soon, introducing himself and his newly acquired "StingRay".

This is not an option that was ever available from MusicMan. There is only 1 other StingRay like this one that I know of. This is a 1996 StingRay, but is had been restored and customized by the "14 West Custom Guitar Shop" in Tampa. The custom "GoldRay" package includes the neck being refinishing in Nitrocellulose lacquer.

wow ...
:)
we should visit that shop :p

I know it is a ploy to make some money, but I just do not see him as a deserving artist. With the popularity of pop-punk style music, instrument makers have been making a killing marketing signature instruments to these teenie bopper fans of these artists. Such as the Fender Mark Hoppus Bass and Tom Delonge Strat. Can you honestly tell me they're supperior talents to say someone like Flea? Now this is how I understand the whole Flea thing. He, too, was a faithful MusicMan artists, but when he could not get his own signature instrument, he switched. Is this correct? I've always loved Ernie Ball for being the serious instrument maker, not needing to find a market to make money because their name is already known for quality. Do you see where I am getting at?

I would say, and I think someone else did prior, that EBMM is known more for its basses than its gitirs. So I guess there's no real need for EBMM "outreach" with basses, as word of mouth is good enough.

The artwork (if one could call it that) on the headstock, is nothing but an absolute joke. My youngest could have done better in his drawing book

I can imagine the guys at EB hanging a pic of it in the canteen and using it for dart practise while having a few cleansing ales after work

As I understood it, Flea wanted the Stingray renamed the Flea. I may be wrong.

Anyway, Flea as a faithful MM artist? He used them live for sure, but in the studio he used Wals and Alembics.

Thank goodness Ernie Ball didn't put up with that BS ;)

A bit of searching confirmed my sketchy memory... and more. Flea wanted a percentage from each Stingray sold.

Now, I do like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but I bought my Stingray before I really got into them in any big way. Certainly before I was aware of what sort of bass Flea used.

My choice had nothing to do with him... why should he get a percentage of the money I paid for it???

If it had been a totally new bass like his Modulus, fine. I wouldn't have had a problem with that.
