Went to Guitar Center today (tried a LUKE)

Howdy everybody! So I stopped by at GC today after goin to the gym, looking to see if they by any chance would have ANY EBMMs. Well I was really thinking that they wouldnt, and especially the LUKE, since that is what I want at this point, but as I was nearing the entrance I had this feeling that there MIGHT be something there. So I wlaked in and I saw a black LUKE on the wall after like 2 mintues of looking at the wall of other NON appealing guitars. So I gave it a test run, but at first I didnt seem to like the EMGs, but then again I was playing at low volume and they were playing loud garbage in the background. So I turned it up and screwed around with the settings and the guitar is pretty DAMN NICE!!! The clean sounds awesome and the distortion with the EMGs in it is also very nice and different fom my Silo, which is what I want. I think it will do a GREAT job at replacing my Ibnz, and I wont have to deal with the damn locking tremolo no more. Believe me I KNOW how to use it and set it up, but it's anoying as hell and I dont use it like Mr. Vai to justify it. So I will most definatly order a LUKE in Carbon Blue Pearl w/ matching head around January (Pete ).

The other INTERESTING thing about the visit to GC was that I asked one of the guys there about the EBMM. I believe he was the manager, and I asked him about if they had any Y2Ds. He claimed that they sold one before and than he was CLAIMING that it HAD a PIEZO!! I was kind of telling him that the Y2Ds dont carry a piezo and that it must be a mistake since Morse does not even use a piezo in the first place. He seemed to be very confident about it, but I think he's full of crap and should know BETTER. Correct ME if I am wrong tho!!! They were also claiming that to get a matching headstock on the LUKE would be like $250 extra!!!! WHATTA HELL is wrong with these people??!?!?!
Anyway, the LUKE it is when I get rid of my unwanted gear! woooooo hoooooooooo!!!!

Could you further explain the differences you found in the Luke emg's and your silo? I remember my former guitar teacher (Jackson V w/ emgs) and when we practiced at low volumes on a practice amp, I thought the sound of his emgs compared to my pafs was awesome.

also, there is an upcharge for a matching headstock, so at least that part is right. (Who knows, maybe that is negotiable w/ G/C)

There IS an upcharge for matching headstock but it's like 100 and NOT 250!!! 250 would be close to getting a premium quilt top or something . Well anyway, my Silo has the H-S-H configuration in the first place, and the LUKE is H-S-S of course. I put BREED pups into the Silo and it has 250K pots at the moment (thinking of putting in 500). The Silo definatly sounds a bit more vintage even with higher output PUPs. I would say that I actually get a pretty close sound to Morse when I use distortion with the Silo, and it is very versetile. The only thing is that on clean channel the lower strings dont seem to be as loud as the higher strings when I play Air on the 6 String by Morse, weird. But the LUKE has very powerful distortion if everything is up all the way, but the tone and volume controls really change the sound A LOT. The single coil EMGs also sound pretty damn fantastic. By the way the neck is AWESOME!!!!! I LOVE the V shaped neck, it was VERY comfortable for me to play on, but I was sitting in like 10 layers of clothing so I couldnt get THAT comfortable playing over all. When I get the LUKE I think I'm gonna have an AWESOME pair of BALLS ! After the LUKE it will follow with SM Y2D and after that probably the Axis SS !

The neck on the luke is phenomenal. If you like that neck then you'll be a happy camper.

I like the pickups, but if you decide to swap 'em down the road it's an easy fix. (However I find eq and different amp settings generally have more of an effect.)

How long did it take to learn Steve's Air on a 6 string?
You use tab?

It didnt take all that long to learn it. Maybe couple of days, I bleieve. However it took me a long time to perfect it. Actually I am still working on that perfection part. It's ALL alternate picking which gets tiring after a while, so that's basically my MAIN source of technical exercise every time I practice. Well on Steve's site there is the whole transcription with notes and tab together. I looked at the tab to learn it faster and the positions, but I used the notes to tell me the timing and wether I am playing it correctly, and which parts to repeat and so on.
By the way if ANYBODY has some good clean pieces such as the one I speak of PLEASE fill me in, or any good clean fun stuff .

That's what happened to me. One day I went into my local GC just to browse around. (needed another guitar like a hole in the head) . But saw and played around with a Luke they had there. I didn't like the stock color so I wound up getting it from another dealer I was buying guitars from at the time and ordered a candy red with matching headstock. wowweewowweewow!
