Imagine Big Poppa and Luke (and a few beers) on the stand - then we'd get results!

That would make for a fantastic LGS, but I envisage that Luke wouldn't be on the MM stand, he'd be over at the Carlsboro stand checking out Charlie and making inappropriate comments! :D

Ah yes, I seem to remember that young lady on that stand! How to make a manufacturer of low to medium quality guitar amps stand the busiest of the whole show!

BP - its funny though because I know a number of dealers in the UK and they dont seem to be kept up-to-date with new models etc. For example Mark Hopkin at Guitars 4 You didnt know you could get an all rosewood Axis, nobody knew anything about the Morse Y2D.

I gotta disagree with you there Dave, I wen't into see my dealer yesterday and the guys there were all drooling over the new Strings and Things catalogue, Everything in it is in COLOUR/COLOR ;) which is a pretty big thing for a distributer catologue, I saw with my own eyes full page details on the Morse Y2D so if ur guy Mark didn't know about it then he isn't talking to the UK distributer. There's no excuse for not knowing.

Murph, if I'm in Cardiff anytime soon I'll let you know, and likewise if your back this way gimme a shout. Good luck with the quest for the AL. :)

This was before I went to the Open House so maybe they have produced some more info - Mark did say the rep was coming the week after so maybe the new info was provided then. I havent spoken to him since I got back.

Do you think the UK coverage for EBMM guitars is good enough?

Maybe I just expect people to be as into them as much I am :)

Dave

I don't know how good UK coverage actually is as I only really check out instruments in two areas of the UK, where I live (Oxford) and where I grew up (London).

There is a great Dealer in Oxford which is how I discovered EBMM but in London it's terrible, I have been all over Denmark St several times now and seen a few EBMM basses but no skinny stringers. I asked a guy in sound control why they don't stock any and he said because nobody knows enough about them to create enough demand for them. I asked the same question to guy in one of the Denmark St stores and he tried to tell me EBMM "don't make guitars". Cretin!

But like I say coverage may be much better in other parts of the country. To put it into context I have still to even set eyes on an Anderson, Vigier or a Suhr so it's clearly not just EBMMs that are thin on the ground over here. :(

Ok Here is my dilema...tell you kids the truth whilst not alienating the few dealers who give a S?hit.

We fight the fight each and every day with narrow minded dealers that "stock what sells" It is not just in your country. The common thread is EB is a bass company. The fact is that most of our guitars are special ordered by determined consumers. The dealer is actually a roadblock. In the states there are a handful of dealers that focus on our stuff and do quite well.

Strings and Things are doing the job they need to do. DaveB if you walked a mile in their shoes you would need an extra pint a day to keep from going crazy. As for the information gap...when a consumer knows more than you your days are numbered. When a consumer asks you a question you dont know..,find the answer....How about the web?

Denmark Streeet and Sunset Blvd, 48th street are considered the mecca for musical products but really are the least likely to introduce and nurture innovation. They are human vending machines. I know that is a strong statement and may anger the few and mighty that work hard on those respective streets but its my opinion after 42 years of retail interaction that they are really the last place I look for support for anything new. The regional dealers and consumers create the wave and these guys eventually ride it.

Thats the negative side....on the positive side these guys make my day on the string side. ITs a love/hate thing. On the string side we are like a must have commodity on the instrument side we are a niche line that takes more effort and knowledge to be sucessful.

Thats a great offer of yours. PM me if you are about these parts.

Trouble with my job is that I travel around the UK quite a bit and may not have access to the forum until I get back home.

When I am working away I always try to get to a local music store to see whats on offer.

I have visited stores in Birmingham, Oxford, Wrexham, Llanelli, Swansea, Edinburgh, 5 dealers in Cardiff one of which stocked LOADS of EB basses and haven't even had a sniff of an AL.

So maybe this is another reason to get one because of their scarcity?

This guitar will in all probability be the last one I get so I gotta get it right!!!!

Wow, how cool is that ? You get a reply like this from BP stating the predicaments of EB's trading policies.
Thanks for this insight into the trading whys/wherefors of a major manufacturer.

For what its worth I'll still be asking why they (the dealer) haven't got EBMM guitars in stock.
Its a damn shame, because some of the outrageous (boutique) guitars out there leave a lot to be desired. The MM guitars are light years in front.

If my count is right this makes my 50th - same age as me !!!

Thanks for setting the record straight Big poppa, that's pretty much exactly how I imagined the situation but appreciate you taking the time to give it to us in black and white.

Murph, anytime dude, I check out the forum most days but don't always log on because I am at work and have to keep a low profile. I know Dave at the Oxford store is planning on putting another order in a for a Luke and another AL, if you wanna give him a call and let him know what you're after maybe he can order those specs for you as if you decide you don't like it he can keep it for stock as he was gonna get another one anyway. He may have already ordered it but it can't hurt to ask right? Let me know if you wan't his number.

Cheers guys.

Here's my 2 shillings...

If you guys keep asking for them, the dealers might just have to stock them! :D

Appreciate the answer BP.

I guess I'll just have to single-handedly raise the UK sales totals!

My current Ball quotient is now up to 10 with a Y2D on order :D
