Hipshot makes a good bass trem. We put one on a Bongo for Dave LaRue, and also put one on a SUB Sterling. It takes ALOT of modifications to install. We did those 2 on the CNC machine.

Hey, Jon. Do you think it's possible to install a trem. as an aftermarket mod.? I'm wondering if there will be any kinds of issues with routing and such.

It is possible... under most circumstace it does require routing out a trem cavity. I have a Khaler Bass Trem installed on a souped up Phantom4 (my very first bass). It is quite nice if that is the kind of thing you do (I had mine put on in '89, when it was more of a look/image thing for me not a playing/technique thing  ).

I am working on my new web site and I've got some good pictures of it (along with Kermit and the New B5). The site should be up soon (hope, hope, hope)

It can't be done on some basses..The Sterling and SR5 won't work because the Phantom coil would be in the way of the trem springs. You can order a template from hipshot, but make sure it will work before you start hacking away at it!

hmm, just a warning..if your thinking about getting both a drop d hipshot, and a wammy....the drop d could realy screw up your tension on the wammy and could put everything outa wack real easly

Again, I have a Khaler (no springs) and a Hipshot on the same bass... no problems... but I have seen some small issues with the Hipshot trem and the d-tuner (it is kind of like a balancing act to get the neck releif and string set up in the right place)

I mispoke (sorry)... It has springs but not in the way I've seen most trems installed... there is no back routing... just routing on the top to fit the trem itself... the springs are self contained in that hole.
