Hi guys, i lurk here all the time, don't feel i have much to add to the group but with this weekend's events i have something to share...
it's vacation time for me and just spent a week in the nicest little cottage next to a lake (for free!) and came back friday to prepare for a gig on saturday. Went to our last practice friday afternoon and and right before stopped by a favorite music store of mine in a little town (45 minutes away from Montreal). btw, it's the only authorised EBMM store around except for Steve's music in MTL which imo is the worst music store, awful service and instruments are pretty much all in a really bad condition. So, i needed a speaker cable but i was looking around for EBMM basses and i quickly noticed a stingray5 20th hanging behind the register ( i love it when a store takes care of their better instruments, leave it out of reach of customers....me likes).
after trying that baby out for a little while (and being late for my practice) i decided to get it. it's a stingray 5 20th HS maple with matching headstock. the funny thing is i don't like maple with matching headstock but after seeing that 20th it changed my mind
I was thrilled with my purchase, but that brought me a new "problem"....i never played a 5er before. On the 10 minute drive to practice i had to decide if i kept that beauty in the case to make sure i didn't jeporadise the gig (my trusty old sterling works like charm). I told myself, try the stingray for a couple of songs and if you make a fool of yourself take the sterling out.
After the longest practice sesssion ever (4 hours!) i'm proud to say i never took the sterling out. I was sometimes a little confused with finger positions, but i very rapidly adjusted.
that meant i felt confortable enough to play the gig with it (yeah!). So i brought both basses again on saturday (yesterday) and also brought my full eden stack (wt405 + D210XST + D212XLT). As is was an outdoor gig, i wanted to make sure i had more headroom. I was the first time that i brought my complete rig. Hopefully it won't be the last. that tone was amazing. What a fun gig it was too.
Thru my rig that stingray sounds huge. i really like the 4th pickup position S+H (coils 2+3 i think). there's tons of bass coming out of that position. Once in a while our singers looked back at me and just smiled. Our drummer was telling me all evening how huge i was sounding.
oh and the gig went really really well too
One last thing, compared to my sterling (a featherweight) the stingray5 is HEAVY! i need a new strap (larger) i couldn't believe the weight difference, will have to find a scale to see the real difference. Let me just say the shoulder is a little sore today, but i'm really not complaining
not pics no bass you say?
