It's interesting what you say about the Blues Junior. I have one and I really like it a lot.

I couldn't deal with the farty bass from the small speaker. Some notes made that amp sound like it was about to fall apart.

I gather from this that you're looking for 'Fender' cleans, in which case I'd recommend looking at the Mustang series as well.
There are many options these days, that's for sure!
Just thought I'd add here for anyone interested, I recently got a Marshall SL5. If you're after the Marshall sound, this is the perfect little house amp! I love it! Sounds great even at conversation levels...

Tried it both as a combo and a head and half stack both times did not like it.
Cranked it was OK but could not dial it in at lower volumes and the volume control was not usable.
Spend the dough and go with Mesa, TA-15, mini rec etc. will get you there on all levels

Secret to the class 5 is dialling out almost all of the bass!

I tried a couple of class 5's... still too loud for home use, except for on the 1 watt setting, then it's too quiet.
Some people like them though...
That's one of the reasons I got the SL5... it's waaayyyy better and way more versatile for just a little more $$.

I play my jp6 through a Marshall asd50 on the piezo side and currently an albion35w tube amp on the buckers. 6l6 tubes without breaking the bank. And sounds great, designed by steve grindrod. I had a blues jr nos and a few ss amps before this one.
I'd recommend a Tech21 Trademark 10, they don't make them anymore, but are a great bedroom amp. You can find them on EvilBay or at your local GC (sometimes, check the website). For the money they are quality built.

First post but my home amp and I live in a big apt building is the same as my gigging amp. I use a 67 twin for everything. Or i use either of my silverface 68s. Maybe not what you are looking for but I am hard pressed to find an amp that sounds great at low volume or any gig volume I'd ever play these days.
I also really like old ampegs for home and when i want to drive an amp at a small gig. I use a 63 m15 all the time. My old low volume amp was always a princeton prior to this. My priorities are different than many though because I love glassy decidedly vintage American tones. I value cleans and just a bit of attitude. I find the fender clean to be my sound and I use a fair amount of effects for my colors. Also you'd be amazed at how many properly set up amps with the right guitar can sound stunning at low and or high volume. Also the right overdrive if you are into them can bring an amp to life at living room volumes. I have 3 pedals for dirt on my board and each one feels just right for a certain sound with different guitars. My albert lee hh calls for a more cutting overdrive at low volume when I want gain to my ear so I have my famulus eq'd for it and my luke III, my teles like the tube screamer for which I use a luther drive with the tone rolled off a bit. My gretsch and a brown rabbit (super pimped rat)seems to find my sound. Not going to lie though when I started playing guitar i was totally focused on jazz heavily into wes so I play a lot with just the neck pickup. I rarely lean heavily on a bridge pickup.
But what someone likes another thinks is "too loud" or whatnot. It all depends on your priorities. I also have a hard time playing other amps because they just never seem to sound right.
I thought for a while all I wanted was tube breakup or nothing but seriously I feel I get better low volume tone from my gigging setups than I do with any of the half dozen or so purpose built amps I've owned.
All that aside if you just want great Grindy tone lots of vintage low watt stuff like Kalamazoos or harmony,danelectro, ward etc stuff can be found for under 200 bucks and nail great rock/ blues at reasonable volume by my standards.

Well, I actually do have a smokey amp that I forgot about. I did two things which has made my setup sound better since I originally posted my inquiry. First, I minimized my pedal chain and am running into a stock Dunlop GCB 95 > Boss DS-1 > Boss RV-3 > champ 600. I also took off the back panel of the champ. I think the biggest thing is just getting more time with the guitar and getting used to the sound of it versus my past single coil guitars. I'd still like to get something with a master volume like a Peavey or a Crate tube amp, but I'm pretty happy with what I have at the moment. I am saving for a used looper pedal so I can focus more on my rhythm and playing. Thanks for all your replies!

sounds equally good loud, as it does sort of loud...
had a Tiny terror for a few years, and it had a fantastic tone as well. another great amp for both bedroom use and band use.

Anyone getting "farty" bass tones out of the Roland microcube either hasn't found the tone knob on the amp or is just playing it too loud. You really can't turn it up a ton. The low B sounds fine on my 7-string at the right volumes. The microcube would be my recommendation.
