Graham Maby ....

Very cool, Mark, thanks. Just been playing it tonight. Man, that is a COOL tune. Great bass line with some tasty, moderate funk flavor, and bridge runs that border on bass solos. The drummer picked this tune to do - gotta give him props tomorrow. And I guess I gotta give Joe Jackson a proper listen in general. For whatever reason, I just never checked it out. Besides "Steppin out", I couldn't have named another Joe Jackson tune, before today.

The last new tune we did was 'The Real Thang' by Narada Michael Walden - the Bongo sounds so good for it that we're going to do more funky disco tunes. Namely: Le Freak, She's the Greatest Dancer...wait I can't actually remember the others. But they are SICK.

Still got to get that CD from Narada M W. thanks for reminding me :)
Can't remember what it's called but had Steve Gadd on drums. Is that possible?

Right now we are working on our first live CD. (due in September)
Heard the unmixed tracks yesterday and sounds good allready!

I'm working on some new originals. I'm hoping to have about 4 new ones ready for the stage by August. Our practice time to work on new stuff has been cut dramatically because we've been so busy, so it's kinda slow moving right now with the whole band writing. We're also going into the studio this Fall, so we're working torwards that, and lastly, we've been working on designing new
T-shirts for the band. We just got them ordered this week and they'll be in next Friday. Here's what they look like, what do yall think?

We are working on some more originals as well. It is one I wrote called "Size 7 Cement Shoes". A love song about my ex...;)

Bloodfist...when you get them in...hit me up on PM so I can get one. If you got a sticker...I'll add it to my armor. :p

You're welcome. The first two albums Look Sharp and I'm The Man are absolutely killer - more "rock" than the later stuff. And as Maby said in the quote above, the bass is very prominent in the mix.

I remember these albums well - I was a big Joe Jackson fan at the time and spent hours playing along to Sunday Papers in particular. Graham Maby's bass was extremely prominent on Look Sharp but I'd always thought he played a Rick 4001 on it.

Right now I am working on Humble Pie - I Don't Need No Doctor (the live version with the bass break) and California Man by Cheap Trick. Both fairly easy but tough to get tight with the band on, deceptively.

As the band I play with is currently on "summer recess" (sp?) until september,
meanwhile i'm by myself rehearsing a lot of cool funky tunes from the 70's - 80's, such as Chic, Cheryl Lynn, Delegation, George Duke, Narada M Walden, Sister Sledge, Stevie Wonder, Shalamar, Whispers, Patrice Rushen, Taste of Honey, Jamiroquai.
But also some recent house/dance tunes that have interesting basslines.

My SR5HH is perfectly suitable for all of this, now I just need to practice a lot to become a better player.
Just can't wait until next band rehearsal with my SR5HH....

I'm currently working on getting my former drummer up to standards as my successor as a bassist. He's going to take my position, because im moving...

He says he couldn't believe the authority of the instrument in the band. He's seen the light now...
He was always playing bass at home but never really in a band enviroment. But I'm confident he'll get the Job done after a while. He says he's had enough of drums.

It's a complicated job to get him up and ready because at the same time we are auditioning drummers, so there is not really a consistancy there from this side...
