Seal's first album - Real Thing by Faith No More (tons of great bass under the surface through out the album), 90125 by Yes, Rio and Astronaut by Duran (again both have great bass), Queen Live Magic, and Cowboy Troy (don't ask )

Here on our ship me and a couple of other guys formed a freestyle rap band. Drums, keys, bass and mic. It's really effect heavy for me because I have to do the chords, some riffs and "lead guitar" parts.

My sister gave me a collection of New Orleans stuff from the late 50s and early 60s. Man, what a great period for music in that town.

Also digging a group called Swan Dive, particularly an album called "Popcorn and a Mama Who Loves Me Too".

I've been listening to Quadrophenia alot lately, and also a cd called if only you were lonely by Hawthorne Heights. Really easy bass parts but it's alot of fun for me.

Currently on high rotation on our CD player are Wiggles, Dora The Explorer, Maisie, Bob The Builder.

That said, I've just ordered a DVD set of the old Beatles cartoon series so I can start to indocrinate the kids, as they have shown some interest in "mummy and daddy's music". For example, they think that "Paperback Writer" is really "piggyback rider" and it's a cue to jump on daddy's back and ride around the living room.

Not so much into Country and Western....

Atlanta band. Good friends and major musical influences of mine - particularly the bass player, Andrew Lovell. I'm stoked that they're active again after calling it quits some years ago, so I've been listening to all their stuff again lately.

Andy plays a Sabre (pic of it on the profile). On that bass, he inspired me to make the switch from guitar about 15 years ago. There's some stuff on the profile from their earlier days, before he scored the Sabre, but a few of the Sabre-era must-hears for knuckleheads are:

Shadow Boxing
ITS
Arcadia -- what Andy does on this is largely what made me buy a bass. i'd never heard anything like it.
Real
Blown Away (Live) -- flaky recording quality, but absolutely colossal bass presence and tone.

All these are in the upper play-list. I've actually been meaning to show this to you guys for some time. One of my absolute favorite bands. It was amazing to me that they were never signed, but then again in the 90's they turned down deals from Caroline and a Sony affiliate.

What the hell, here are a few from the bottom list (short samples) that I know are on the Sabre, too:

I'm currently listening to a few things that will either pump me up, give me goosebumps or make be feel just happy.

Recently I have been listening to a lot of Rusted Root - in this stuff (I have all the albums) there is such a mix of incredibly funky, beautiful or dark songs. Really great stuff. When me and my brother Louis go busking we play a couple of Rusted Root numbers acoustically, with him on guitar and lead vocals and me on double bass. Passers by love it and pay verrrrrrrry generously.

I have also been listening to lots of Ben Harper and Paul Simon. Great stuff again.

If I want to be pumped up, there is nothing better than Prodigy's Fat Of The Land, with its fantastic heavy synth drums, intense bass and shouty lyrics (when they are present). This album (and their other albums really) literally give me goosebumps. Their earlier stuff is great for me as it is not at all heavy but happy and very silly... sums up the drug-taking, massive party throwing, illegal rave culture of early 90s UK. Sadly I was too young to enjoy the scene - but it can be estimated on a much smaller scale with this fantastic music.

Bands that do this for me also include 'The Qemists' (fantastic Drum and Bass with a live rock band set-up...bassist plays a black/rosewood SR4H), Chase and Status (Drum and Bass DJs with MASSIVE beats)

I also love the funk, about 60% of my CDs are funk. My favorite at the moment is Maceo Parker's discography.

EDIT: How could I forget my long term love with Barenaked Ladies, Tom Waits and Soul Coughing. These artists...I can't really describe it...but there are many great emotions in there for me.

If you haven't yet, check out Robben Ford's version on the "Talk to Your Daughter" disc. Heck, the whole disc is awesome.

Dream Theater - Black Clouds and Silver Linings...it's taken a few listens, which it usually does for me with their music, but I'm really liking it and JM's Bongo sound. I got the 3-disc version with a disc of covers that they did. It's really good too...some Dio, Queen, and even a Dixie Dregs cover.

77s - Holy Ghost Building...I was really into the CCM stuff in high school, but have been pretty disappointed with the genre in recent years. This is one of the bands that I was into back in the day. I'm a bit of a sucker when I find a band I like...I'll keep buying the music even if the band probably should have hung it up years ago. Anyway, I was really surprised when I bought this and found some really good old-school gospel, blues, and bluegrass...maybe not the kind of stuff that you would play to impress your friends, but I can't seem to take it out of my player.
