Well...the new floyd rose that EBMM is installing has been out a while now and I figured i would ask everyones opinion about it.

To me it doesn't feel the same as the Gotoh. The Gotoh just feels more solid to me and I love the feel of the rounded-over saddles. Don't get me wrong, the new Floyd is a great piece of hardware. It's smooth, it's functional, and haven't really had any problems except the D-Tuna issue. But I still prefer the feel of the Gotoh.

What are your thoughts?

I've also read about it being a redesigned gotoh, but I've never seen that statement confirmed by anyone from EBMM. I honestly have my doubts about the new bridge being a Gotoh. It's a very different design altogether.

I'm not complaining about the new system. It works great. Just commenting on how different it feels to me and I prefer the traditional Gotoh setup.

I believe they confirmed it was a gotoh in the axis tribute introduction thread.

I haven't seen the new Gotoh in person but from the photos the baseplate appears thicker. I wonder what the differences, if any, in tone there are from the old to new.

This is an interesting thread. There are certain things I like and others I don't like about the new Floyd.

I believe someone at EBMM (Derek or Greg) told me the new Floyd is an in-house design and manufactured by EBMM.

BP, Derek, Greg: Can any of you confirm and can you shed any light on what was behind the change? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

So it might be a EB/MM exclusive only design Gotoh? Pretty interesting and cool at the same time. I have actually not seen the new design yet on other manufacturers guitars, or when the Gotoh FR is sold separately.

Here is my beef with new design......no way to purchase replacement parts for OLDER model Floyd systems.
MM does not stock parts.

It is virtually impossible to get saddles (unless you can read Japanese) off the Internet.
The only option seems to buy a complete Gotoh Floyd (for big bucks), then swap out parts.

Please stock parts for older Floyds or give us a contact!
As for new Floyd, it really is like regular Floyd you can buy anywhere.

If you're looking for parts, I'd contact Adam @ Floyd Upgrades first. He sells Gotoh Floyd bridges branded with his logo and I'm sure he can sell you individual parts as well. I've bought stuff from him before and he's a great guy. Even sent me another brass big block cause the first got lost in the mail.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I need some saddles.

I think it's very nice, but I've been having a lot of issues getting it to work like my other floyd equipped guitars. I may end up trying to put one of the older ones on it just to get a more uniform feel when going from guitar to guitar.

I kinda miss the old Gotoh trem they previously used. I always loved it's design and smooth saddles and fat tuner knobs.

I'm surprised that they started using this new one with the Tributes. You'd have thought the Tributes would be the last of the original Gotoh / Floyd's before they switched it out as it's what was on the EVH and Axis.

@kimonostereo: Hey Scott, I agree with you.

I had asked Derek that, and I said, "Even though EBMM is switching to a new Floyd, you've GOT to use the old Gotoh on the Tributes, otherwise you're taking a big step away from the original." He responded that the original Gotoh Floyds were all gone (no more in stock) and EBMM would have to do a huge order in order to get more in. WAY more than the number of Tributes they were planning to make.

So... It is what it is.

Tributes still ABSOLUTELY KILL though.

@dibart77

I am tempted to switch mine out with a Gotoh trem... good thing I don't have one around to do the swap.
Has anyone done this yet? Just curious if the studs will line up correctly.

As a Floyd user ( have 4 Floyd equipped guitars) I think the new bridge is great. Eels more like an original Floyd.

Can't say I've noticed anything that makes me like it more or less than the old one. Works like it's supposed to and my Tributes play like a champ. That's all I need in order to be happy.

I had an extra shim put on the tremblock and that definitely helped things. It raised the back of the bridge so that the D-Tuna worked better and in turn it brought the bar down a bit.
