As far as Hartke goes, I used it when it first came out (other guys' rigs) and liked it well enough. I do hear lots of stories about blown drivers from underpowered amps, actually. Will Lee used their cabs for quite some on Letterman, and his sound was above reproach, IMO. Oddly enough, when he recently switched to the reissued Ampeg B-15, I think his tone changed for the worse for that application. (This coming from a dyed-in-the-wool vintage Ampeg fan.)

I have heard some guys playing through Hartkes that did sound like the proverbial trash can, but I've found it's a bit dicey to judge a product by someone else's poor results.

Thanks Mark. At last I seem to be getting close to the sound I've been looking for. This set-up really suits the Bongo. Trouble is that it's all so bl**dy heavy.

Dave, it's the minicab 1x15 - the top cab is a 4x8.

I recently got it all cased up, the head case has access at rear for cabling and the fan so it never needs to come out. The cab cases are trays with casters, so the 15 stays in it's tray - much easier to move around stage/studio.

So, do you have a pic of your ashdown rig?

It's on page 3 of this thread. I use two 4x8s. I've had it for about 20 months and used it very regularly. The head blew in February but Ashdown were very quick to fix it.

As you can see above I've just built another rig with a bit more low end. I'll mix and match the two of them depending on where we're playing. The Ashdown head sounds pretty good through the SWR Goliath.

Nice. I went for the single 15 for a bit of variety. Next rehearsal (tomorrow), I'm going to route the sub-harmonic directly to it and have the regular signal going to the 4x8.

I've done 250+ capacity venues with it (head is only 300w) and it makes planty of noise!

perhaps I ought to link my two rigs and put the sub through the SWR cab.

Just had quick look at your web link. Southend area has a great musical heritage, Dr Feelgood, Eddie and the Hotrods, etc. must be a hard act to follow.

We got to Essex last year Harlow and Brentwood. Southend one day maybe.

Old Blue Dave,

I'll letcha know how the sub thingy goes. Great idea for your rig - that would GROWL!.

Check out Club Riga - it's in Westcliff (suburb of Southend). I know your stuff would go down very well there. www.rigamusicbar.co.uk. I think Eddie & the Rods have played there & Dr Feelgood are there 29/09/04.

You have PM.

That's the one I've ordered. I'll post updates as we go along. You should, too. If this one works out, I'll probably have the Tuba 24 built for me as well.

I was thinking about building one too. A good friend of mine is an expert woodworker and had agreed to help. I think that now I'll wait for the results from both of you.
when i was poor, me and my friend made a 2x15 cabinet. it sounded great in his house. the first time i used it with my old band, i blew both the speakers out. it sucked.

Yeah. When I was a penniless student in 1964 I made a copy of a Marshall 4 x12 - they were revolutionary then - fitted 25 watt speakers and used a 30watt valve amp to drive it. It worked fine but lacked real bottom end, but in those days who cared. Oh how things have changed.
