When I was poor. We used to play acoustics and try to save up for new strings. LOL how the times change. Cuz now that I am still poor thanks most to the guys that hang out here. I find expensive taste keeps on in the poor house, but oh how we smile.

I been wanting to hook my SR 5 into some of the kids stereos in their cars. You know the ones that go by at 3 AM with the bass popping so loud the spare tire bounces out of the trunk? Think those would blow?

OldBlues......

Tried wiring the Sub on my Ashdown direct to the single 15 last week. Not great. I'll be sticking running everything through both cabs.

C'mon Chris. What are you getting?

Well for the time being I have to wait.

I was having some cabs custom made by a trade builder here locally. However, he's in the progress of moving his storefront and now it looks like I'm going to have to wait another month. :( :(

They will be:

Eminence Professionals
A 4x10 16-ply Birch cab with 4 of these in it.

The bottom will be the same except for one of these:

When I first heard about them I kind of rolled my eyes. But he insisted I take a pair of these and gig with them for a week. I was blown away!! By the bottom end and the tone!

I know some people kind of frown on "custom cabs" - but these sound beautiful and can put out some volume!

I'll be running a QSC PLX 2402 - 2400watts bridged @ 4ohms. Or maybe the 3002... I haven't decided on my preamp yet.

I was looking at the BBE Bmax you have. Maybe something else - I haven't decided yet.

I have to confess that I'm not a great believer in bi-amping with a bass rig. I tried it with my Trace Elliot stack a few years ago and was singularly unimpressed. Also I rarely play at stage volumes where a sub would come into it's own. I like to leave that in the PA.

I probably won't be biamping either. I had planned on running full range. I used to run everything bi-amped back in the day when it was cool to do. But I really couldn't tell a big difference - at least not a good one.

I'm a bit short in the hearing department and it used to confuse me, which is not difficult, that some notes came out of the top and some out of the bottom cab. Stupid really.

I've tried all sorts of set-ups. My latest SWR cab is getting close to the sound that I've been trying to achieve, especially with th Bongo, but it's so heavy. A number of UK bassists are raving over the small EBS cabs. I suppose I'll have to investigate them next.

I agree. Except in maybe some PA applications, I don't see a real reason to bi-amp a instrument rig. I'm sure they're some that will disagree - Oh well IMHO.

I heard the EBS cabs were very nice too. Good luck with your new rig - and I'll post pics of mine as soon as it's finished.

I guess it's a nice to have, if you REALLY want/need it, but I have to say I prefer all my signal going through both cabs. That's what I'll be sticking with.

Have just read the harke slatings! I run an SWR 400/4 head with a hartke TP 410 and Vx115 (paper). I tried a harkte but didn't like, too clinical. Prior to this i used GK. TO be honest I found G.k unreliable but good sound (but could only sound like a GK) and there support disgusting. I had it 9 months and it blew 3 times, on the the third time it set on fire. I had a tech check my guitar which was fine and had to sell the amp. I bought a second SWR head, and HARTKE cabs and have used them extensilvly for a year. They get used hard and loud and never fail, infcat they've been played for 24 hours solid. I find harkes new range of paper cabs brilliant. I generally record both cabs then mix the alloy with the paper to get either a warm or slightly brash sound. Pictures coming soon.
