Dear BP & EBMM,

Just wondering what changed so that now we have the choice of quilt vs. flame on the BFRs. I'm certainly happy about the development, but I was very surprised.

Thanks in advance.

My opinion (which may be miles from the truth!) is that it may increase sales if the individual can choose the grain. Maybe a random grain didn't appeal to people spending that kind of money.
Now with a choice more people may take the plunge - still out of the league of a poor H.M Civil Servant though !!

You said it yourself Rob, . . . it makes MM enthusiasts "happy"; and that's what it's all about - making the players happy!!

Way to fire MM!:)

My guess would be that the supply chain has improved and they can now accept orders for either type of grain and know they'll have the resources on hand to make it when the guitar hits the production schedule.

Come on fellas...leave Jeffrey out of this. ;)

I like the option. I think it gives the end user (that being us) a more controlled decision on the looks of the axe.....and it is another option that we have to wade through....

+1000000 koogs, i really feel that if i/customer is/am going to lay down that kind of bread and i don't like flamed i shouldn't have to buy it and i wouldn't ......so i feel it will definitely bring up the sales end of it,not to say they didn't get enough sales because i saw a WHACK of JP'S going to Asia wowsers:eek: ......but i think its a good decision ,puts EBMM in line the rest of the Custom Builders and leaves no room to complain and the customer is 100% happy every time because HE/SHE made the decision
Just my nickel's worth

I think it's a great option too.

I'm curious, though...

I could go out on a limb and just say that I think the quilts will way out-sell the flames, but would that necessarily be true?
It just seems to me that people dig the quilts a little more.

I'd be curious of EBMM's numbers on that - if there's a lop-sided percentage favoring one or the other. Or, perhaps it's a pretty even split?
I would think they would have to account for that, in order to be able to purchase the proper amounts of quilty and flamey maple in advance.

What's the general consensus here regarding quilt vs. flame?

I tend to prefer quilt, however I think to me it's that I've seen more "mediocre-ish" looking flame-tops, with the occasional "primo" flame-top that comes around and really makes me drool.

And maybe that's where the option to choose would be a selling factor for me as well...I think if I was going to buy a new BFR with the option to choose, I'd be real tempted to go for the primo flame....

Both are great but depends a straight flame is ok but a flame that has a up/down pattern is awesome, and like everything so subjective to each person, man love it all:D

I'm pretty excited to be able to specify quilt. I'm not really a flame fan. Now, I have two guitars that are flame, but I have them purely by chance--and, of course, because I think they're great and great looking. However, if I could choose, quilt it is, baby.
