Welcome to the forum Richie.

Yeah, I love the big metal flakes they used in yours...

John Lapre: is that how you knew it was the first run? Bigger flakes?

And no matching headstock on Ritchie's bass.

I thought the original and 2007 blue dawns were more or less the same colour and sparkles?

Pacific blue burst is the same colour, without sparkles - but is trans also - v cool.

It is somewhat the same color, but the process is most likely quite different. Sparkle/flake finishes are, by all accounts, a pain in the butt to pull off. PBB is a translucent finish and by contrast, relatively simple to pull off.

yeah!!! so i got me a blue dawn! it's my favorite color! jacob.rocha said it is indeed a blue dawn from Oct. 10, 2001. I sold all my kubickis for this bass. I have another sterling in black with matching headstock which is awaiting customs clearance. These are awesome basses. Never regretted buying them..Thanks for all your help guys..

Congrats - nice bass and not too many of them around.

Tbone - I recall a previous query on blue dawn v PBB and Scott confirmed they are the same colour, the PBB being minus the sparkle flecks and also trans - but you are right, the sparkle does create issues in application of the paint - possibly more so those meaty sparkles of the type Musicman Nut seems to have a big collection and tempts us with photos from time to time!

Both colours light up under lights, more so blue dawn because of the sparkle. Also one of my fave colours.
