Been getting a bit tired of doing my usual scales and shapes to warm up so I thought I'd see what you other MM players do to warm up. Any unusual warm-ups? (no jokes please)

Hot and cold contrast baths for the old hands (still in my 40's not that old, but it helps). Stretches. Lots of gentle stretches! This helps a lot! Then playing, maybe some scales.

not a lot other than a bit of noodling and a sound check. Not good really because the odd times ive done something more formal i found my playing was far better. You should look at the flea instruction dvd. He goes through warm ups and there are some good ideas . . . As well as some great playing. Oh and he plays an SR4 throughout! Other than that wear a bigger jumper?!!

It was a Thread about that, I'm tired of typing  so..., yes, chromatic scales through whole fretboard, why not?
Later play a few favorite bass lines, I think a few minutes is enough! ;)

But real warm up is on the stage after about 5-6 songs! :)

The older I get, it takes about an hour of playing to warm up.

After setting up the gear, I stretch the wrists by tipping a Guinness or two, shaking hands with friends and waving at the girls across the room. Easy.

If its a cold day or I feel cold a warm water rinse for my wrists or a hot air dryer on them, a scale exercise for 15-30 mins then it's a couple of fave bass lines to get me going, Waiting for an Alibi, Bullet in the head, My Generation, Good times etc a bit of a mix bag for pick and fingers, by then well ready to rock.

A couple of beers and a light meal is my standard pre-gig warmup. Sometimes, venue dependent, we'll play a verse and chorus of one song on our set list at sound check, but that's the only playing I'll do until the first note of the first song of the first set.

Chromatic exercise in one position

My warm routine:

1. 1st finger on the 5th fret (or 7th fret)
2. Play this chromatic exercises from the lowest string to the highest strings and back:

starting tempo: 60 bpm
target tempo: 120 bpm

Starting on the 1st finger:
1234
1243
1324
1342
1423
1432

Starting on the 2nd finger
2134
2143
2314
2341
2413
2431

Starting on the 3rd finger
3124
3142
3214
3241
3412
3421

Starting on the 4th finger
4123
4132
4213
4231
4312
4321

This is also a great warm up when you don't have a bass (e.g. On the way to a gig). I use my thumb as the "fret" and touch it with my fretting fingers.

Hope this helps! :)

No problem. Glad to be of help!

It's a Cabernet Pearl finish (Wine Red finish) with a Vintage Pearloid pickguard.

PM me if you're interested in variations of these exercises. ;)
