All the HH Axis' (and EVH) have the same pickups- custom wound DiMarzios.

I think they're pretty hot. If you want 'em a bit hotter, try shimming them and raise them a tad- makes a big difference.

They're such great sounding pickups that I'd start with that approach rather than putting in new p'ups.

+1 on that idea beej.

I would definitely look at adjusting pick-up height before swapping out for others.

that said, what type of amp(s) and/or effect(s) are you using with your Rosewood ASS ? and how much more gain are you looking for?

cheers

Joel

I really can't picture too many pickups that are hotter than the ones on the Axis!

Actually foggy....there are several pups out there that are "hotter".

I would go with what beej said. He knows his stuff and his advice is always solid. Plus, keep in mind, you said your Luke is fine. To me, big difference in pups. The Axis pups (DiMarzio) with the Luke pups (EMG). Keep this in mind. With the effects and all....it is gonna sound different everytime.

Try the shim....

"any ideas of what to put down there?"

I cut up an old computer mouse mat, but that was with P90s on a Warmoth.......I'm no Axis expert.
