In short: a great looking guitar that plays like buttah. Kinda hard to get the sparkle finish in the picture though

that's beautiful

What a nice looking Silo Spec..

The damage is awful, I would be severely irritated. Was the Silo not shipped in a case? Can't you remove the whole strap lock, post and all?

How was it packed?

Shame that had to happen.
Most of the scratches should buff out.
Didn't it come in a case?

You can try to tone down the chip with some nail varnish - you may even be able to get a nail varnish close to the colour with some glitter in it - it may be worth trying on a real small area first.
Do you still have the chip of paint that flaked off - if so you could use it as a colour match for the varnish? - As I say it's a long shot !!

Nice axe too!

The Silo came without a case (which was mentioned by the seller, no prob there)

The guitar was packed in a cardboard box, with plenty of stuffing, just not enough. This made the guitar move inside the box. The box had two holes on either side of it..In other words: the headstock and straplock would have been OUTSIDE the box during the shipping.

Good tip about the nailpolish.!!! Thanks alot, didn't think of that

The straplock can't be removed , because the tip you pull to unlock it is broken off. So I can't reach the screw. (I haven't tried pliers yet, I think I'll manage, I can always grind the outher bit in half or whatnot...). Can you buy just the thingamajig that slides on the whatsit that's attached to the guitar ?? (If i'm too technical , just let me know ;) )

Yes the chip irritates the $#%@ out of me, Yes I wrote an angry email to the seller...

But in the end it's still one great guitar...chip or not.

That is totally unacceptable!
I certainly hope the seller steps up and compensates you somehow for this.
BEAUTIFUL guitar, though!!!!
I suspect that it's similar to the new 08 LE models but with a dark brown on the edges instead of the red.
Please let us know how it turns out, and how the seller responds...maybe even mention his ebay name here.
Good luck!

Could we have a closer look at the volume and tone knobs please?

You should be able to get the straplock out one way or another. Even if you end up carefully pulling the screw out (trying your best to minimize finish damage), you can drill out the hole, glue in a dowel rod and then put a new strap lock button on. If you're careful, it should be undetectable.

People who skimp on packaging should be loosely boxed up and shipped across the continent.

That is a beautiful guitar!!!!!!

Shipping guitars is ALWAYS a risk.

I know tons of people that work/have worked for Fed Ex and UPS.. and some of them hate their lives. When they see the word FRAGILE.. that's their cue to screw it up.

Bad packaging? Forget about it..

It happens too damn much. lazy shippers that do not take the time with packing. A friend bought a PRS on ebay sans case and it came to his house in really bad shape via ups. he got a full refund but it should not happen.

Love your guitar obtw. great color combo. battle scars as some forum members told me.

I am sure if you grind the broken strap lock away, you will be able to remove it. As for the finish chip, a good guitar repairer will be able to remove a small area of paint from under the scratchplate and transplant it on the headstock. I had this done on my sparkle ASS to cover the tone knob and Charlie Chandler did a fantastic job!

That's a great idea Tim.

I had another one whilst wallowing in the bath - tear a small strip of masking tape and put it onto the chipped area. Then you can experiment with the nail varnish and see what the finish will look when it's dried. If it sucks - tear it off and start again or ditch the idea. I would have thought that an hour of "bench time" at a GOOD repairman (like Chandlers) would cost between $150 - $200. See if you can get a quote and put a proposition to the seller to cover a proportion of the cost. Wasn't it sent insured? - that would cover it?

Isn't that a nut around the strap lock, can't you just use a wrench and loosen the thing to get it out, or use a pair of long thin needle nose plyers?

Ouch. I hate to see that. I've had some bad ebay experiences related to poor packaging. Man, is it really that difficult to properly secure soemthing for shipment?

I can feel your pain. Last year I bought an HD TIVO from somebody on ebay. She sent me the first one with nothing but brown packing paper around the original TIVO box -- yet there was no styrofoam or padding within the TIVO box. Man, that TIVO rattled like loose change in a tin can. Needless to say it didn't work.

But wait...there's more. She agrees to replace it for me with a new model. I spent $10 for packaging materials (a strong external box, peanuts, styrofoam inserts) and told her to use that packaging to send me the new one.

What does she do.....she sends the second one to me exactly the same way the first was packaged. Ahhhh....some people just don't get it.

Yep that sucks but a very nice axe anyways, hope you get some comp money, shipping can be a dangerous thing with guitars or any item, I sell stuff on ebay and am always extra careful about packing especially guitars, and I worry until they get to the new owner, and i sometimes take a hit on shipping costs due to my anality of making sure it ont get damaged.

Congrats on the axe it is very nice:)

I'd have broken the neck and then sent some pictures to the seller. You had a box with obvious damage to it. Get him to cover the cost of a replacement neck from EBMM with a brand spanking new paint job...

problem solved. :D

j/k (kinda)
