Thank you Big Poppa. I had no idea that it was mentioned earlier cause I hardly ever check this board as you can tell by my post count.

so BP, what exactly does this machine do to the body that makes the whole? I understand the purpose in general, but specifically how does putting a hole in the body tell the machine the model?

Don't worry, bud. I wondered about the same thing when I opened up the trem cavities to my guitars. And I didn't notice it was mentioned before either.

there is a radio button that gets a program loaded into it telling the buffing robot what it is. it has a cover with two screws....

You mean to tell me my Balls weren't hand buffed by human beings before leaving the factory. That's awful. :D:rolleyes:;). Thanks for the explanation. I've always wondered what that hole was for.

I never noticed my balls had extra holes in them. I guess I've just been too busy playing with them to really notice :)

(First off, my apologies to Morsecode: I'm not trying to pick on you here by quoting you. There have been other posts that express a similar sentiment. I just happened to choose yours to begin my reply.)

I think it is perfectly acceptable for Jim to bring this up. That the hole is in an area that is not visible is irrelevant. The point is that Music Man instruments are known to be (and rightfully so) quality instruments. Therefore, it seems out of place for that hole to be there, especially since the trem and control cavities have painted and finished surfaces.

Think about that. If the appearance of these areas doesn't matter, why are they painted and finished at all? EBMM could save some time, effort, and expense by just skipping them.

But...my main purpose in bringing this up is to say that there seems to be a level of hostility or intolerance on this forum for anything that is critical or negative of EBMM, regardless of its purpose. I can understand this reaction. I also love these instruments--and this company. In each of the past four years, I've bought a brand new EBMM guitar, ordered through my local dealer (with one exception for a guitar that was purchased from a dealer in another state). I have never bought, and I don't think I ever will buy, any other brand of electric guitar. All my string purchases have been and will be Ernie Ball. I appreciate, admire, and respect the lengths that BP and everyone else at EBMM go to, so I want to support this company as much as I can. However, there appears to be a knee-jerk reaction on this forum to slam anyone who is critical or says anything negative, even when it is not bashing or trolling.

If I were Jim, I'd have the same question: what's with the hole? It seems odd, out of place, especially considering the quality and care that goes into these instruments. Asking the question and bringing up the subject is not a joke, is not retarded, is not out of place, is not making a fuss, etc. As BP said, it's a good question, and I did not get the sense that Jim was trying to make trouble or bash the guitar or EBMM in any way. It's a legitimate question; it's a legitimate concern.

It may not be a big deal to some of you, and that's fine, but do you have to go out of your way to belittle or denigrate Jim? Instead, chill out and go play your guitar(s)!

The only legitimate criticism against Jim that I can think of would have been, perhaps, to say he should have brought up his concern with customer service instead of posting about it here on the forum. But nobody mentioned this.

I understand that we are passionate, but please, let's be a little more mature and respectful.

what a joke for a post. unbelievable.
