Dude! My first Axis came from Andertons in Guildford too (several years ago). It was 2nd hand and I bought a used 5150 head at the same time - best £1000 I've ever spent.

Axis + 5150 for a grand? Good call!

I still live in hope that Andertons starts stocking EBMM one day. I pester them every time I go in there. I keep telling them that it's a shame that I have to keep buying them elsewhere!:D

I am selling a few things right now, which will eventually go toward my next MM.

(an Ibanez guitar, ART SGX2000 Express, ART X-15, various Washburn pedals..)

Someone's supposed to come check out the Ibby today..

edit: the Ibby sold today, it was my last one!

I traded two Les Pauls (a Deluxe RI and a GEM) for two of my current Axis Super Sports, straight up... other than that, I traded a Gibson Blues Hawk in against my first EBMM, a Luke II, and I got my very first Axis in a straight up trade for a Jackson SL1 Soloist in Erie Dess finish (and that was a cool looking guitar!).

Well, it still surprises me. This, too, was an all-day affair, if there's any doubt to my previous post. Three hour drive, one way, to get to the GC that stocked it. I was so convinced walking into the store and laying eyes on it that I'd be leaving with it. To say the guitar is beautiful is an understatement. I even made the point of using the exact same Marshall I have at home, so I'd be doing a true test drive. Sigh. I guess the planets were aligned right. Jupiter was in conflict with Uranus, or something. I love the Balls I have now, and really thought I'd be getting another.

Not all EB's are for everyone. I am not a huge fan of the Luke due to the feel of the V-shaped neck. Guitar sounds wonderful, just doesn't feel right to me. You were able to play the Silo and found it was not to your liking....you did the right thing. YOU have to be the one that likes it.

I never sold anything.....I just keep buying stuff.....it helps to confuse the wife when you have all these guitars laying around, I can blend the new ones in.

Excellent idea! Thanks Koog.

On another 20th Silo note, I asked some friends of mine in Austin to go check one out for me and compare it to my Parker. Neither one had ever played an EBMM, nor were real familiar with any of their guitars. One friend told me not to sell my Parker to help fund the purchase, but this was before he saw and played it. He called me all excited (he and his brother, who had just purchased a 60th Ann. Fender strat the week before). Man, they were like,"Get this guitar. It is awesome!" I asked my bud to rate it 1-10 and he gave it a 9.5. Then I asked him to rate my Parker since he liked it so much and since he saw Monty Montgomery play one live the week before. He gave the parker a 7.

Jay, what kind of music do you play? What sound (band wise) are u looking for? I have not heard the 20th silo. I will say that when I first played the Parker that I didn't really care for it, that is until I plugged it in. With my digitech rp2000 set to the VIA setting coming out of my little marshall practice amp, I'd say it sounds pretty close to Adam Jone's tone on the newest tool album (yeah I know, same pickups).
So in your opinion, did the 20th sound more bluesy or what?
Thanks,

wow thats funny! I was just over at a mates place yesterday and he has a PRS 20th Ann custom 24, and we both agreed the Silo SMOKED his PRS!!! it wasnt even a contest, my mate was very upset as the PRS cost him a lot, and it is a fine axe, but the Silo was just amazing in comparison.
Both PRS and EBMM make awesome guitars, but I know that one of the biggest complaints by the PRS players I know is that the factory pickups in a Custom or Standard 24 (Vintage Bass and HFS, I believe) are pretty much too high gain and one dimensional... on the flip side, I've always loved EBMM's choice of pickups for their guitars - they really seem to work for the particular instrument they're mounted in. Anyway, you sure wouldn't be able to do a straight comparison between a Custom 24 and a 20th Silhouette - you have to heavily tweak the amp settings to suit the different guitars; I've got a Standard 24, and any time I pull it out I have to completely change my amp's EQ to work with it's pickups vs. an Axis, and the Axis has hot pups, which a Silhouette does not...

Darchirnoj,

My playing's pretty bipolar. On one hand, it's vintage-Metallica-in-yer-face, and on the other hand, it's a hybrid of electronica/hard rock. My web site has our music, and my more metallic side can be found at http://www.icompositions.com/artists/project_overlord. All my guitars are dual humbuckers, so I obviously favor a fatter sound. This is what drew me to the 20th Silo.

Truthfully, I had no expectations about the Silo's sound. I went in with a mostly blank slate, biased only by the posts I've seen here. I intentionally played it through the same Marshall I have in my home studio, and played it full-gain. So while the Silo may be intended for a particular style, I just played it the way I typically play. The sales guy thrust a Luke at me, and it had a lot more punchy low end (you know, for those greasy power chords).

But, seriously, it's all a matter of taste and preference. I bought my JP (quite literally) on blind faith, being as there wasn't one anywhere close by at the time. I have no regrets on that purchase, but one GC started carrying more Balls, it only made sense to get my hands on one.

As to whether it sounded more bluesy, geez, I can't really say. I think there's far more expertise on this site who can give you a better answer. Sometimes my guitars sound incredible. Other days, I want to throw them out the window. Maybe I test drove on an "off" day. As far as workmanship and playability, the Silo I laid hands on was top knotch.

Ibanez Roadstar RS530 x2

That brings back memories - I had 2 RS530's at different times in the mid 80's and early 90's - black with a red pinstripe round the edge.

Recently i've sold:

1998 57 Reissue Strat
1999 USA Deluxe Strat
2003 Parker P44
2005 Parker PM20

Getting rid of the chaff!
