I'm after a complex sort of device. I want to be able to electronically lay down a rhythm, then cycle that and layer on a bass line, some rhythm guitar, and some more guitar work... You know, just have fun at home.

What would a unit that does that stuff be called? Does anyone have one they recommend?

Maybe it's just the right software in a computer I need - I don't know. If it's software, how do you connect a guitar to a computer? And any recommendations on software (especially for Linux)?

Many thanks,
Stone

I use a Jamman by Digitech which is not longer sold, new models are out.. but the Boss has a better sound.

Here is a sample (guitar and bass), dry recorded into the old Jamman:

LOOP with Jamman

Just converted it from .wav to .mp3 for saving webspace.

I'd go for such a looping hardware device, it's faster when you have an idea.. a computer needs to start.. loading the software.. and and and.. to complicated for my needs. You can import the file later into a sequencer on the computer to work on it. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies. I've finally ordered myself a Boss RC-20XL... just like SpudMurphy suggests.
