I'll never have a Floyd again. They're a pain in the you know what.

I have never owned a guitar with one. I pick up the Stoners Axi and its seems so complicated!

Floyd always seemed like a perfect example of "solution in search of a problem" to me. Some players like them, but I quite honestly cannot fathom why. Maybe if I played speed-disco-deathcore I would get it...?

It aint just metal players that use em and it doesnt say how good a player you are either.
Any money that Hendrix would have loved the Floyd.
They're no more difficult to set-up than a standard trem and they work alot better under extreme use as well as subtle use. Personally, the Edge Pro that Ibanez created is a big improvement, its lower profile and you dont have to cut the ball ends off your strings.
I like both types of bridge, fixed or trem.

That said, unless you're into extreme trem use (e.g. Vai, Satch ...), the MM vintage trem does an exceptional job of staying in tune. Luke, for example, was happy to give up his Floyds for the vintage Trem. Same with Petrucci and his MM non-Floyd trem.

And it's still easier to change strings, intonate, etc. than a FR (you can't set individual saddle heights on the FR for example). That said, the right tool for the right job and the Floyd is the right thing for some cats.

As far as the setup goes they're a little harder. The radius is basically not adjustable on the FR. At least you got to plug Ibanez for the one millionth time

Yngwie Malmsteen does ok with a standard trem though, and he gives em as much stick as Vai or Satch. I tried setting my dads Strat up for using the trem and it just didnt wanna play ball, the nut needs recutting and i might stick a brass nut in too, better sustain.

Anyone tried a Floyd Rose 2 or Pro and that new Floyd trem where you dont have to tune it, you just whack the strings in, fine tune it and you're away.

ive tried the actual Floyd Rose guitar, it has the speedloader system on it, pretty cool, but the guitar sounded odd, and felt odd, not much weight to it.

Sounds like it, most of those the trem is acctually fixed and not floating

yeah thats the one, they had a stand at the Melbourne Guitar Show last year, odd guitars. no real punch to them.
