Yeah, since the 80's he has played through old Carvins, Marshalls, Soldanos, Bogners, now back to Carvin, and he always sounds almost the same.

A little OT :

And what a performer Vai is.

He was THE shining light at the G3 concert here in Perth - both in playing AND stage presence.
(Vai, Satriani, Petrucci)
Absolutely phenomenal........ still.

His fingers are and extension of his mind, and boy do the thoughts flow.

I've seen him in pubs & clubs....... always has a sincere enjoyment for performing.

well, for one, the pickup combination is so different. what other EBMM guitar can you select both humbuckers together? plus it really has that Morse tone, which is unlike other balls for sure. the single coil too is very different to my other guitars, its very bitey. its a very versatile guitar, but not in the way the Luke or Silo Special is versatile, i think its more capable of giving you your own sound.

You can approximate the Vai sound on a Luke through the Line 6 Toneport and Gearbox software.

Oh.... to Floyd or not to Floyd? I have been busting my head off with this question for quite a while.

Well, with the fixed bridge... it's:

- more stable and reliable
- easy and quick stringing, tuning
- doesn't go out of tune when a string is broken
- less options when playing (no divebombs :D)
- doesn't have that killer Floyd look :p

...so... it's entirely up to you.

Depends on your playing preferences.
