I use a Tech 21 Trademark 10. It has a huge sound for such a small amp. It can also be run direct out to the sound board for recording. This feature also makes it valuable if your primary amp ever takes a crap. I use mine when we gig for a good clean sounding amp. I can't recommend this amp enough.
You don't need a huge amp to play shows, to be honest some of the smallest amps sound best. I'm in the process of getting rid of a half stack setup and adding a 2x12 combo. That way if I need the extra speakers, then I can add them via a 2x12 extension cab.
For practice i use it only clean and with no reverb...
i think it's good for small gig too, good cleans and good distortions with a pedal before.:!!!!!!!
For Practice....Line 6 Spider. I get decent effects without breaking out the pedal board and extra chords. Nice a small with programmable channels (4 of them). It even has an "insane" distortion....yeah!!
For real....Marshall DSL 100w with a 1960 lead slant cab. It gets "nut shakin'" loud. Just the way I like it.
For me if the baby is sleeping I play through a Boss 864 using old computer speakers....yep thats right....I have some old Altec PC speakers that plug right in and with the little sub woofer it doesn't sound all that bad. For really late night playing I'll use the headphones. My main amp is a Dr.Z Mazerati head through a Boogie 1-12 cab. Don't like the cab so I hope to soon procure a 2-10 Z cab.
Tech 21 Trademark 10 for the same reasons as nobozos has stated above. I don't need headphones to get a decent Marshall or Fender sound at low volume. I just wish that I could get a good Mesa Rectified sound out of it.
