There is only one brand, and that would be T.C. Electronics, for a pedal it would be Flashback, and for gigging it would be T.C Electronics GSystem as it can Chanel change my amp and put the right delay to the right song.

Line 6 DL4 - a popular pedal to hate, however it works great for me with 3 presets, tap tempo and stereo out function when I wanna be that guy.

Since multi-effects units count, I'll list the AxeFx. What's really cool about it that sets it apart from other delays is the controllability that you can get. For instance, I set pitch as a controller. Since I hate delay with low notes and like it with thinner, higher notes, I have the AxeFx set up so that there's no delay on low notes and as notes go up in pitch, delay starts to get blended in. It's even easy to set the taper rates that you want. Mine is set so that no delay is blended until I hit some mid notes. Then from there, it goes to blend delay from 1% (middle-notes) to 18% for my guitar's highest notes. This way, I never need to step on anything.
You can also use envelope as a controller so that backing off on the volume knob or dynamic picking can effect the amount of delay added. I use envelope as a controller for chorus as I like a little bit of that effect with cleaner notes. Again, no need to step on a footswitch for this to happen.

Delay is imperative!!!! It is MY thing as well!!

I have an Eventide Harmonizer H3000 that I (as well as most of the professional studios worldwide) use for delay. Brand new these units were over $5,000.00. It is "really" simply beyond words and the standard.

With that said, I have my "live" gear set up that I do not want to run in a "rack", but rather a pedal board. So, here are my "delay" units that I have chosen based on a "comparison" to my H3000.

Damage Control TimeLIne (all tube)
Strymon TimeLine
Eventide TimeFactor

I have tried most all of them, and if I were to tell you which "cheap" delay pedal has an excellent regeneration for a "single" note application (i.e., just jamming around without boards, etc. . .) you wouldn't believe me. So continue to buy the Carbon Copy but you're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over spending!!

My HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper is invaluable. I've tried many different delays over the course of my life time and this is the first one that I've had that I feel really captures what I'm looking for in a delay pedal.

Couldnt agree more about the G system. I use one and the delays are fantastic.

Boss DD20, love it... Really like the modulate setting, use it a bunch. Recently purchased an alter ego (modded flashback), and it has some interesting old school delays, however I find the versatility of the DD20's memory banks and the variety of delays work well enough for me, especially live.

TC Electronics Flashback, Boss DD3 (Blue Label), and Visual Sounds H2O (EARLY original version).

....and ALL my delay needs are met !

Interesting thread so far. I like to read this stuff as it shows how people use "my favorite" effect and what meets their needs. Some people are good with the DD3 for life, and I've seen some people's boards that are made up of delay pedals haha. If I had the resources I would probably try and get my hands on all of them.

Anyway, I've been going back and forth between the new Flashback X4 and the Strymon El Capistan. I think I will ultimately go with the El Cap and then at some point also get the regular Flashback. The X4 is a bit too big for my board...I like it because of the expansion on the looper and 3 presets and storing more toneprints. However the El Cap is just so good and has so much going on. The other really cool thing is that it can do Looping as well...sound on sound, and you can actually mess with the tone with each knob after the loop is recorded.

Beej, I was meaning to ask you, is there a reason you're not sure if the X4 is staying on your board yet? What's your main delay by the way since you said the standard Flashback is on your small board?

Sure- I've been using the Boss DD-20 and love it. The mod delays are excellent (I like them better than the FB), the DD is great and the tape is decent. It's smaller than the FB, has 4 presets, a looper, and has separate wet/dry outs. But- it's a little more awkward to switch presets and, well, the grass is always greener so thought I'd try something else out.

The FBX4 sounds great. But it's huge. Also the looper doesn't play nice with my parallel loop. I set it to 'kill dry' so I only get wet sounds, but that doesn't work in looper mode so it passes the dry as well (which doesn't work for me). Plus, for whatever reason, the dry from the looper seems to be out of phase- so when I blend it back into the amp the dry sounds are thin and cancelled. Makes the looper non-usable for me. It's not like I use the looper a lot- but I use it to work out passages, sometimes with the band to do some neat stuff, etc. So I'd like to have it.

Given that, I like the DD20 more. I'd like to have the 'Space' and Morse preset from the FBX4 and the separate preset buttons, but not at the expense of the other items.

depends on the rig i use, with the roadster head i use the G-Major and Digitech IPS33B Delays. the IPS33B delivers a nice modulated delay tone, but doesn´t have a Taptempo option.
with my smaller DC-5 rig, i´m using a cheap "Biyang" delay, which works great and has a nice sound.

I use a TC Electronic Nova Delay. I like to have presets to choose from. Tap tempo included.
