Grew up on classic rock and got a chance in 70's and 80's to see a lot of those bands live.
Now it's mostly Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Steve Morse, Beatles, Bela Fleck and Flecktones, and a bunch of fantastic acoustic finger pickers.

...and in a most odd twist...i'm really digging the cd BREAKAWAY by Kelly Clarkson of all people. Go figure.

Dream Theater. Recently I've been rediscovering Opeth, Faith No More and Alice in Chains. New stuff for me that I'm really digging: Albert king, Charlie Christian, Brian setzer and Guthrie Govan. Yep! Got my eats full lately!

Pearl Jam, Mastodon, Aimee Mann, The Cardigans, The Strokes, The Beatles, John Carpenter, Bernard Herrmann & Ennio Morricone soundtracks, classic Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, any Phil Keaggy, any Paul McCartney . . .

and tons of rap/hip-hop.

The list could go on for days, but those are the mainstays. If you would have asked me 20 years ago, it would have been all shredder guitar and technical stuff , but now good songwriting is infinitely more interesting to me. I can't even stomach solo guitar music anymore. Weird, huh?

I've been listening to the Affector album "Harmageddon" a lot latelty. Notwithstanding JP himself, that's how a MM JP ought to be played - well done Daniel Fries! Also, I've been doing my lunch workouts to Yes' live "Yessongs" - Steve Howe is crazy good.

I grew up on classic rock and bands like RHCP,Pearl Jam,Alice in Chains and so on, but for awhile now I've been listening to Instrumental metal/rock like Satriani, Vai, Johnson, Malmsteen, Jeff Loomis and Keith Merrow. I'd have to say Dream Theater and Pink Floyd are my two favorite's though.

Yes sir - Steve Howe was on fire those days. Not that he doesn't play well now, but he had an intensity in the 70's that is long gone!!! One my favorite plays of all time

Don't shoot me! I do find enjoyable stuff in rap music, too. Although I don't listen to it that much, for example Dr. Dre stuff appeals to me on some level. That being said, I'm not too focused on the lyrics for the first couple of times I hear a song so that might help me to tolerate some rap. :D

I like listening different things from ambient through pop/rock/metal to film scores. Few names/bands (in no particular order) I consume on a regular basis are:

Andy Timmons, Joe Satriani, John Mayer, Eric Johnson, Queen, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, Steven Wilson, Transatlantic, Toto, Flying Colors, Dream Theater, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, Sigur Ros, Robert Downey Jr. (yes, his 'The Futurist' is a great album!), Frost*, AC/DC, LTE, Oscar Peterson, Jordan Rudess, Eldar Djangirov... You'll get the idea!

I mostly listen to metal and that's probably because I mostly play metal. Top 5 metal bands are probably Arch Enemy, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, and Symphony X. I've been listening to a TON of Ghost for the past year or so, and I listen to Al DiMeola on an almost daily basis (his 70's fusion stuff, not this acoustic nonsense he's into now). I could go on for days about what I like, but those are pretty much the high points.
