The Abalone (we call it Paua) is unreal. I want one of those for mine now....and it wouldn't even suit my guitar! It just looks so good.

Dark guards on candy red do look really classy, I must say. Nice on stage IF you've got light shining right on you.

Here's a couple of shots from my band's very first public appearance at an open mic (worst. stage. setup. ever.). Feb 2009, eight days after I shaved my head. First time my CR Bongo saw the light of day.

No hair and no zebra shoes....and is that an actual bass amp in the back? This photo appears to be pre fashion epiphany and hybrid Bose system. You're right AD, there were many things off with this stage set up...

It was an open mic (other folks' equipment) on an 8x8-foot stage. It was like playing in a closet. I was standing with my leg against the kick drum. The singer couldn't hear herself at all and the mic kept cutting out. Not the best….

And yeah, we didn't quite have the look down yet.

Rizzo - I love your bass - is that a matt black finish pg? Personally, I think it looks great as it is. You may find the abalone is a bit much on the SR5 dependent on your taste - it's a v big pg area compared to an SR4 or Bongo. Abalone is discontinued I think - CS may be able able to advise if they have any left in stock? If you go for a white pg unless you change the knobs to chrome and the button on the end of the coil selector to white, it'll look a bit strange - mind you Tony Levin doesn't seem to mind on his peach SR5!

Great pics ADouglas - looks perilously close to dinging the Bongo headstock territory to me. Perilously close quarters to the lady singer also!!?? You gotta love these candy red Bongos.

It's plain black with the plastic cover still on it, so it looks matte black, but it will be nice and shiny when I remove it. I see what your saying (as well as John above) with contrasting the white guard with the black parts, might look a little off.

The black looks really good though, I guess that factory that makes these things have some sense about them!

It looks like plain ol' smooth black is the winner (for now). Thanks all!
