What Should Be My 2nd EBMM?

This old dog turns 40 in about 9 months. I've got a Petrucci now and am going to have the wife "get" me a new guitar for my birthday. I was originally thinking about a Carvin CT6 but think I really want 24 frets.

If you were me would you get another Pet with say a limited color or a Piezo and options I don't have on my basic PRB? Or, a Luke, Silo? I'd also consider an axis even though it's a 22 fret guitar. I was a huge EVH fan.

My current axes are:

79 Les Paul Custom
2004 EBMM Petrucci 6 string
2004 Carvin DC727 7 string
2003 Carvin Bolt + w/ Floyd

Plus, I'm building my first two customs which include a Petrucci inspired bolt-on with a wilkinson and an explorer with a 24 fret bolt-on neck and Evolutions, fixed bridge.

If you really want to have 24 frets, I might suggest the Silo. You can get it in a few different pickup configurations, including a few single coils to give you some diversity tone-wise.

I was thinking about getting another Petrucci, but I picked up a Silhouette Special and am absolutely floored by the playability of that guitar. I'm glad I tried it. Granted it's the Special so it's 22 frets, but that thing just sings.

Just something to think about.

Dave, have her get you the new Morse or a Silo. Get something that special to you. Find a place that has a ton of EBMM and just check them all out. If I'm correct your in the NYC area, Royal has a ton of EBMM's, check them out.

The new Morse looks great, and with all the pickup configurations on the thing.

I recommend just try 'em all out, don't limit yourself.

Dave, Royal has a couple of places in NYC. OC and a few other have been there before they might be able to give you exact directions.

Use the EBMM Dealer search to check out what they have in their inventory, they are on gbase.com as well.

Just becareful buying from them, make sure they give you all of the stuff and correct case if you buy anything from them.

Dude! A Maple Silo Piezo Trem is the perfect complement to a Pet. Get a contrasting color that's a little lighter to show off the maple. You keep the 24 frets and the Piezo switch is out of the way.

Of course the new Morse's are Beautiful. The volume and tone knob placement on the Morse is perfect. These things are going to be collectors items to be sure.

The Axis is the best sounding guitar in my house.

Which ever one I pick up I can't put down.

As far as Royal goes Fred had a problem with his case smelling, but we bought via internet. If your going there it's a whole nother deal. But from what OC's told me they don't deal.

weird pickup configuration aside, I'd hold out for a new morse model. I have 2 twin axis SS's (same color even) and these days it seems like I'm playing my petrucci more often. I have a original morse and find myself playing it just to play something completly different from my other guitars. the drastic change can be inspiring sometimes.

I dont know why everyone is down on Royal Music, I bought both my axis's there and they were pristine with brand new nice smelling cases and they gave me a fantastic price, cash out the door to boot, def go check them out, not sure whos working there these days but they love MM guitars there or at least they did, the brooklyn loc has a nice selelction as well, call them and see -

Yeah. That was a weird experience... I open the case and Whew! I have no idea what it was, but it wasn't a very pleasant first experience. But that aside, they did do something that I still torques me. NorM clued me in that they had a Blue Dawn Axis SS there. I called the guy and he quoted me the price. I think it was $1199... I whipped out the ol plastic money and paid in full + shipping. I get a call back 2 hours later and he says that they quoted me the wrong price. It was another $100 or $150 dollars I forget which, but really G.A.S'ing for one at the time I figured if I want it, I gotta pay it. I didn't know of any others around at the time. So I paid the extra and they shipped it to me.

Bad experience? Possibly, it was a nice guitar, but I think it was a shady deal. Just a little heads up...

If I get another Pet, one of them will be used for C tunings so it's not like I'm not getting any versatility out of them.

After that, I really like Luke and Silos.
