I just got a SLO special hh. I love this bass and how fast it is. I like the stock set up but i Drop my E down a step to D and there is not enough tension. I like alot of tension in General. I was wondering what strings your would suggest to optimise the sound from my white pearl beauty... should i just adjust the Low E to a 110? or change the whole set? does EB have hex core stuff? i hear that is pretty good for increasing tension but keeping gauge down...

Have you tried the .105 E? If not, the .110s might do the trick. The power slinky set 55-110 would definitely have more tension. Personally, I'm partial to the 50-105 regular slinky set. The hybrid set 45-105 might also work for you.

what do you mean Hybrids? I am using the stock gauge with a 110... My style is screwed up because I really dig into the strings but i also slap..... I am in the midst of setting it up perfectly.... i want to have it be really fast but keep the sustain for when i dig and hold....

I LOVE THE SLO... JAZZ size necks rule!!!

I think the general rule of thumb is add a .05 for every semi tone you drop so if you were keeping it permanently in drop D then replace the 100 with a single 110.
Your bass was shipped with "Super Slinkys" as standard (100-80-65-45) so if your happy with the rest of them get a single 110 to replace the 100.
Though personally I use the "Hybrid" sets 105-85-65-45 an find the 105 drops down to D when needed no problem.
