I am need of some help, I will only be able to add one bass to the collection this year. I currently have two Bongo's in the rack a 4HH lava Pearl and a 5HS carbon blue pearl :D , I am sure I want to add a second 5'er to the collection, my delima is I don't know if I should add the 20th Stingray 5'er or Another Bongo, Which ever one I get I am sure I want a single H, I love my Bongo tone and feel, but I have been playing around with the Stingray's at GC and it has such a pure sweet tone, that I just can't decide on my own. I know it's all personal preference but they both sound so nice, so I guess my question is with me being a Bongo player and totally happy with that tone and feel would you diversify and add a Stingray for a little different feel and tone, or stick with the Bongo cause you know it's butter?

Go for the 20th. Once again BP and the guys have produced something truly special and it will be a beautiful instrumet.

For tone and collectability, I'll think you'll struggle to beat it.

DO IT! :)

My vote is for the 20th. Hopefully there will be one left for me by the time I can afford it! Right after the CBP HH SR5 that exists only in my mind for the time being ...

I'd add a 20:th anniversary Stingray 5 to the collection if i were you. The 07 LE is "just" a paint job, whereas the 20:th sound wise will bring something hierto unheard in the bass community. At least if one trusts the evaluations by Sterling and Scott, and "the Balls" are usually right:D

Yeah, I agree about the 20th SR5. The problem is, they're all so freakin' hot. I say if I win the lottery I'll have more EBMMs than Musicman Nut!!! Maybe not that many.... but still.....

If the 20th was just a normal SR5 with a pretty paint job I'd tell you single H Bongo 5 in a second. I suspect that the 20th Ray5 will make even the most Die hard Bongo fans sit up and take notice. At least until the BFR Bongos come out. ;)

You said it, friend. If the 20th were available with a piezo I'd be in line for sure. As would you, I suspect.

Re the BFR Bongo...I sincerely hope it's not just a Bongo with a fancy top. Gorgeous tops alone don't do it for me any more. Been there, done that, not interested. (Carvin LB75A, rounded body sides, 5 piece neck through, abalone inlays, gold hardware, AAAA quilt top. Pimpy in a white Escalade with gold trim kind of way.)

But a Mahongo like the Open House Bongo or the LaRue bass...that would make me part with some serious green.

So what's the difference, you ask? The one-off Bongos made to date are understated and classy, and that's something really special...to be able to do an exotic bass without pimping it to the max. Fancy tops that go over the edge are are, well, what Carvin does really well. They're beautiful to be sure, but they're a bit overdone IMHO.

It's Puff Daddy vs. James Bond. The former is stylish today but won't hold up. The latter wears a suit that hasn't changed in 80 years and he still looks great.

Frankly I've got mixed feelings about the 20th SR5. I really like the tone block idea and I have no doubt that it'll be a KILLER bass. But the flame top...not so much. I LOVE the 30th SR4, though.

the 20th is gonna be one major badass. i have the 20th silo and the 30th Ray and theyre rediculusly amazing. the 20th's gonna be just as badass if not more.

+ used Bongos turn up on the net etc so theyre gonna be easier to get a hold of later but the 20ths are gonna b limited and awesome

Unfortunately, Yes, and I can't go the diamond route either just did that at christmas, but hey got the little mark II myself. Sounds like it's going to be a 20th, I wish I could get both the 20th and the Bongo 5H in BD, but hopefully next year I will be able to find one around still.

+1 20th SR5

I was feeling kinda iffy about what to blow my x-mas/lesson-teaching loot on, and I've chosen a 30th SR4 unlined fretless, over the myriad other standard choices.
I feel that dropping the extra cash on something a little more special and rare (even though you might have to wait) is well worth the investment in the long run...and the tone run.
If you gotta have another 5, get the anniversary!
Personally, I won't be getting one though, cause I've never seen an EBMM that looks more classic and classy than the 30th SR4! BOOYAH
