STEVE MORSE

I am a total Steve Morse fan, but it's not only because I like his music that I bought a Steve Morse signature guitar. In various interviews or videos, Steve explains why he designed his guitar like this :
  • the position of the pickups
  • the position of the volume knob (for volume swell)
  • the position of the tone knob (for tone swell)
  • the position and the organisation of the switches
For me, the design of the SM guitar is really thought : it's not just a piece of wood with few pickups and a nice color. I like this no bullsh*t attitude.

I always liked JPs playing, and I couldnt believe how classy his guitar was. I remember watching the Metropolis 2000 DVD just to see the guitars. Then I saw the mystic dream.

At that time I thought they looked cool. I got a call for a urgent and unscheduled rehearsal. I didn't have my guitar with me as I was running some errands. A friend of mine lived nearby and I asked if I could borrow his guitar.

When I got there he said take good care of that Petrucci, I was like "YEAH right". No really, take care of that. When he hands me the case and I read Music Man I couldn't believe it. Inside was this beautiful Pearl Redburst 7 string.

Haven't looked back since. I love these guitars for their classy and elegant design, they playability and the quality of the instrument.

Thanks at everyone in EBMM

I saw an ad in a guitar mag. back in about '94 or maybe '95. It had a picture of Luke, Steve Morse and Albert Lee with their Music Man guit. fiddles and that caught my attention. Caught my attention because all three of those guys are amazing players and I had seen EVH playing one too. Having several of my favorite players using MM guitars got me interested. When JP joined the family that was it, and I had to pull the trigger on one.

back in 1991 i´ve seen EVH with his new guitar....i felt in love with the look of this guitar and after i checked one out, it was clear that i must have one of those guitars.
the neck felt so awesome in my hand, never had this feeling before...this was the root of all evil. later on, JP started playing EBMMs and this was the next guitar i tried. and it was the same as with my first EBMM....

I was in GC and the look and feel of a Silo Special interested me. I didn't buy one, until a few years later when I saw my Fuschia Silo Special on EvilBay as part of the CLB (Casey Lee Ball Auctions). It was love at first sight. Lost the auction in the last 20 seconds, but hounded the winning until he sold it to me.

I have to say it was EVH, by way of Peavey. In 1999, I was on hiatus from playing guitar, but I picked up a Peavey Wolfgang in a store. My wife was there, saw how happy I was playing, so she got me that Wolfgang for Christmas. I started playing again, got re-interested in the guitar and Van Halen the band again, and I started working my way backward historically from there...I got an Axis Super Sport a couple years after that, and was hooked.

Saw a catalogue in a shop which showed me the SS was available Lefty and in Purple. Ordered one straight away. Never even seen one, let alone played one
No famous guitarist connection.....to this day I have heard almost nothing by any of the EBMM signature artists....it was all about the instrument for me

I remember posting in a thread like this back in Jan., 08. Here is my response:

Albert Lee and Steve Morse....

I had been an Albert Lee junkie since 1982; when I first heard him. I hated Telecasters before that. AL made me love them. Then some years later, when I saw him he had his EBMM sig. I thought, "What is that thing?!?

In 1985, I saw a Peavey amp ad and it had Steve Morse advertising a new amp and he had his new sig guitar strapped on. I wondered where his Tele was. Then I saw the EBMM ad that said, "Finally, someone got it right" or something like that.

It would take me several years to realize I needed to buy one of these awesome guitars. But, truth be told, it was those two players....

This was a great ad.....

For years I played on & off not really knowing about EBMM except for the EVH. In the spring of 06 I had just bought a high end common make for the first time. The day after I was in a different music store and on the wall a drop dead gorgeous Honey Burst Axis SS. It was the EVH factor for me as well. It wasn’t an EVH but it was the body design that I loved. I had to have this so I put down some cash, went home and got my new guitar, returned it, then came back to buy this ASS. That was my first time. :)

I'm a huge John Petrucci fan and took a chance on a BFR JP7. I had never played one, had never even seen one in person other than what JP played at the Dream Theater and G3 shows I'd been to. It all started with my Amethyst BFR bought from an online dealer without ever having one in my hands. For me, this was a huge risk since I'd *never* bought a guitar without playing it first. The risk paid off. Within a year and a half, I've bought 7 more EBMM guitars. They truly are addicting instruments. I play more often than I ever did. I practice more and I'm noticing improvements in my playing. It's all because I enjoy playing these guitars more than any others I've owned.

So I started as a fanboy buying his hero's signature guitar...and ended up being addicted to them because they really are THAT GOOD.

Over the years I have been playing, I always thought they were cool guitars. I played them at GC and always thought the EVH/Axis guitars were cool. I love the Nigel Tufnel "Mr. Horsepower" guitar and still think that EBMM is missing the boat on a production Nigel model. I had never played one that I "needed" to have until I tried an Albert Lee HH. Wow, what a guitar! I am giving thought to playing those exclusively and buying a few more and switch the pickups out for some more tonal variety (Phat cats would be cool).

I'd always wanted a Steve Morse sig ... loved his playing and the super-complicated switching appealed to me from day one.

One day I just sucked it up and bought a used one on eBay.

I originally became interested in them when EVH started using them but never really had any accessible at the time to try out. Nor did I have the funds as a teenager. John Petrucci has been hands down without a doubt my favorite guitar player since 1997 when I first heard DT and when he made the jump I became very interested in EB. I wasn't entirely on board with his guitars (looks wise) until the BFRs came out though. These are just absolutely the most incredible guitars I've ever played and I'm a proud EB user now!!

I blame/credit my Ex Girlfriend! She got me listening to Dream Theater back in 2000, and then in 2003 she told me she wanted to buy a JP7 in black. I contacted EB and they said I needed to start by carrying their strings & accessories. After a while they said I could sell MusicMan guitars (I basically kept bugging them every month until they finally said OK), so I placed my opening order with the black JP7, a pearl redburst JP6, Graphite Pearl Silo, Black Axis, Trans Red Axis SS, and Teal StingRay. By the time the JP7 and JP6 arrived in mid-2004 I was hooked and she was sunk.

Like many here, the EVH association was the start but I never really gave them much serious thought. I always thought they looked nice and figured that if they were good enough for EVH then there must be someting to them. I am also a sucker for nice tops, but some experiences with other guitars taught me that tops and nice looks don't necessarily make the guitar. I had all the Fender, Gibson and Ibanez that I wanted and finally gave an AXIS a try, none of my other guitars have been touched in weeks.
