Just wondering what types of strings you guys are using on your Bongos?

I'm thinking of trying one out to give me something different. I already have a Jazz with stainless Hybrid Slinky's which is bright with massive growl, and a G&L 2500 with Nickel which is deep with a surprising amount of growl from the nickels.

So what would be good for a nice fat sound without too much 'clang'? Don't plan on slapping..just want good tone. Something that would excel at doing Govt Mule, SRV, Indigenous, Los Lonely Boys..etc...covers.

And what strings come on it from the factory?

Thanks!

EBMM ships all their basses with Super Slinkies. Right now I've got DR Hi-Beams on my Bongo and it sounds lovely. The fact that the DRs are dead helps also - dead roundwounds have that fat sound but still have some bite to them. In the event at the DRs die out, I've got the original Super Slinkies (which are also dying) ready to go.

Dead roundwounds. I just love 'em! :D

I'm not so sure about flats, never been a big fan although I do have a set on a fretless just to have something totally different :D

Sounds like a good set of nickels is the way to go. Now I just have to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on the Bongo!

I've got Nickel Slinkys on both of my Bongos and they sound great but I've heard that the Thomastik Super Alloys and Jazz Flats are amazing as well (Bov,Monk, )

I've actually got both of my Bongos set up with Sadowsky strings right now--flats on the fretless, and nickel rounds on the fretted. Very happy with both.

I also really like the way the Jazz Flats sound on the Bongo, too. If/when I acquire a third Bongo, I will probably set it up with Jazz Flats tuned EADGC.

Well I pulled the trigger on the Bongo HH. Lava Pearl on the way, buying it sight unseen/unplayed. I hope it's orangey! It came down between the Lava and the Stealth, I think if the Stealth had a black ebony fingerboard it would have been the clear winner. But I've always wanted orange, so hopefully it will work out :)

This is what I have, but it's more red then orange. Very nice.
