I'm picking this of in two days and even though it looks good with the white pickguard I would prefer something else, maybe a Black/white/black?
I understand the pick-up cover can not be changed or is difficult to change.
Ideas?

I like tort pickguards, but as a matter of fact, I just bought a '99 SR5 with that exact combination. After looking at it for a few days, I've decided to leave it alone. It's a very different look, compared to my other basses, but it's growing on me.

My vote would be for the white that is on it or a white pearloid.

I will need to see what some of these pearl guards look like. I'm renewed to guards, it's been a while since I had anything with a guard.

Thanks for the input

Black pickguard with white pick-up, of course being a black bass makes a difference.
Black PG with black knobs looks the best to me, however it may not be a proper option on my bass?

I agree, go for BWB. You don't want the pickguard competing with the grain. Knob color doesn't matter much IMO: Chrome knobs will match the bridge, black knobs will match the pickguard. Honeyburst is a lovely finish, I'm still trying to find an excuse to get another MM bass just so I can have a honeyburst one.

I'de say tort and black Pup. Have a chat with Customer Service about the Pup cover (CS is your friend). After-market Pup covers are also available including Forumites who want to do swaps .

Can those covers be changed? I read somewhere that they are "glued" on?

Tort goes really good with Honeyburst. Black is good too.
Customer service will be your best course for the pup cover question.

Yeah, tort looks great, but this bass got a white pup cover, right?

So, ...with this white Humbacker, ...I'd definitely go for a white pearloid PG!

I agree with this. Color is a subjective thing, but to me, that body color just fits with white. The tort looks okay, but not as good. And black in this case, just doesn't look good to me at all. But, hey, we all see things differently and have different color preferences.

I picked it up tonight and after a couple of hours cleanup and new strings, it sounds like a Stingray.
