That looks like an old, pre-EB serial number. What kind of bass is it?

Thanks,
Greg

Still my B0021850 is 3/3 1983.. but hey, its no secret anylonger that PreEB's are totally messed up when it comes to dates vs serials. :(

 ......mmmmmmmm........I'll take the liberty of correcting that for you Palle.......;)

>>.....my B021850 is 3/3 1983.....

(I know you like B00 Basses :D )

gf,

Jack would be right......B025718 is a Jan 1983 Bass.

As Palle has indicated, the serials don't run in chronological order but there is a general pattern....and then we get one or two rogue serials that don't fit the pattern.....

Such is life.

My Sting Ray B027867 is white with a black scratch plate. It has an EB headstock and the bridge with the string dampeners. It has two EQ and many dents and scratches.
It plays like a dream.
When was it made?

Can anyone help me?

B027 is probably 1983. Since Ernie Ball has no serial number records from the pre-EB period, we depend on each other to figure out when those basses were built.

Hee hee hee....good one Jack.

geniefunk,

One or two years prior to selling to EB in March 1984, Music Man was having trouble with their Bass necks (truss rods). My toss is that your Bass was one such instrument and that the neck was replaced by EB after the take over....that would explain the Pre EB serial# and the headstock sporting the EB logo, which, in turn, additionally points to your serial being an 83 or early 84 number. On the other hand, it's possible your number could be one of those rogue serials I was taking about and that your Bass is earlier than 83/84.

The only sure way you are going to find out is to take the neck off and inspect the the date at the heel and the date in the body pocket. That should only take about 5 or 10 minutes. If you're uncomfortable about doing this, a luthier should be able to do it for you while you waite.

Cheers.

P.S. Just an after thought....are the strings top-loaded or do they run through the body???
