I liked the build-up to the delivery in your thread, felt like I was waiting with you. :p
That's hilarious they thought of birds-eye as discoloration. :D
But my experience of Ishibashi here in Kobe and in Osaka has always been a good one, so nothing to worry about I think.

Based on the emailed descriptions that Ishibashi provided about the general condition of the bass, I was expecting to have to put some work in to make it nice, but in the true Japanese way they were making it sound much worse than it really was.

Same with my '91 sunburst Stingray. They said the back of the neck was "totally worn". WTF, it was nigh on perfect, it too had nice figuring, and overall the bass was excellent esp. for its age (apart from some inconsequential dings). You did well by the sounds of it.
