What's up with the interest in Date of Birth?

Is there not a "system" or "scheme" to the serial numbers for EBMM instruments?

It seems that Jon gets a request almost daily for DOB-wouldn't be easier to have this info posted?

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question..it seems logical to me though...

No system, no scheme. The numbers are random and they keep a DOB database.....

It's kinda cool to know ehn you're guitar was born, IMO.

Are they really that random? My Pet proto has a serial # of G12101, I bought a Pet when they first came out G15821, the last three 6 strings I ordered are G24603, G25145, G27517, I have numerous #'s in between. It seems like they have some sort of sequence.

I think Jon addressed this in some other thread. When they are building guitars, they just grab some neckplates and put 'em on. They don't pay a great deal of attention to which serial number is stamped on the plate in an attempt to assmble the guitars 'in order'. In the end the Serial # gets recorded in the database anyway, so why bother.. right?

That being said, you can see how the numbers will generally increment over time as batches of neck plates get used and then new ones come into the shop (with higher numbers).
