I'll start..

I started playing guitar when i was 11. I remember playing the two chords of America's "A Horse with no Name" over and over for hours (then days) until i can strum it properly.

So, whats yours?

I remember a Buddy trying to teach me a D chord from a U2 song. I remember putting 12-52 acoustic strings on my Mom's Spanish guitar and trying to play along to Jeff Healey's "See the Light" album. (Yes, the neck did banana, I put nylon strings back on and all was well).

But in terms of actual songs, "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Hotel California" are the first two songs I remember being taught. Not sure I've played either of them since then.

Enter Sandman, only the first riff though. The first song I could play all the way through was Stairway to Heaven. Took me forever and a day to learn the solo as a beginner.

Smoke on the Water for me also. Then the bar chords started. I can't seem to remember any other songs I moved to next... some of the easier Zeppelin stuff probably. Then had to figure out the easier Rush things.

Oasis "wonderwall" is the one I first played live.

Don´t remember the first song I learned though. Must have been an easy one :D

Wow.....you guys make me feel old. I really don't remember. When I was taking guitar lessons in the mid 60's, we had band once a week. I certainly learned plenty of songs that probably went back to the early 50's. I graduated to playing chords around 1970 or so (only the top players were allowed to play chords in band) and started gigging with a band we put together shortly after, in high school. From that first band, I remember playing Proud Mary (every band played that back then) and Ride Captain Ride by the Blues Image and during a break for the rest of the band, I'd solo Mason William's "Classical Gas".

On guitar, the first song I probably ever played was Dead or Alive.

The first song I ever played in front of an audience in a band was Interstate Love Song by STP. Ironically that song is still on the set list of both bands I play guitar in. Even more embarrassing is I was playing one of the chords wrong until only 18 months ago...but that's pretty normal for that song.
