What's up peeps? So I am very strongly wanting to get a LUKE model as soon as possible. However can you LUKE players give me some background on how it sounds, and what you can get out of it. Also if you can compare it to the Silhouette model since I have that one (rosewood board, HSH config, vintage tremolo): what are the differences tone wise (more straty, warmer, more output, etc etc.?). If I get this nice piece, it will be replacing my Ibanez RGT 42 FM which IS a nice guitar. It is neck thru with maple top and mahagony body and I put Air Norton and Steve's Special so it sounds very close to Petrucci's earlier one. I know it's quite different from the LUKE in materials and all, but will I be able to get some nice Petrucci type of sounds out of it, for example if I play Paradigm Shift or also some Morse stuff with a lot of string skipping and a lot of alternate picking? At high gains is it very clear and not muddy, and has good clean sounds?
I just want to know AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE about this guitar, since I will HAVE to replace the Ibanez which I really DO like :)rolleyes: yea yea)! I will try one out maybe this weekend if I get a chance, but I have to go out of my way to Long Island to try one, so some info from you guys would be MUCH appreciated before I try it out :D .

By the way when I get it it's going to be Carbon Blue Pearl :)D ) w/ matching headstock, and NO piezo.

I had a silo spec tuned up with an emg kit, and now i have a luke...the main difference is the neck, V shape on the luke, very very confortable! the sound of the EMG luke kit is warmer, and, according to me, more versatile, cause you can use the guitare volume with really more succes than the SA's...

here's a video :

Just a thought, but since you're happy with your current guitar, and seem a little reluctant because the Luke will have to be what that guitar already is, plus be whatever the Luke is, why would you change? Just sick of the old guitar? No shame in that, I've been there, and that is why I responded. I've had that... gotta get a different guitar syndrome before, and replaced guitars I loved with new ones that I hoped to love the same. It just usually doesn't pan out that way once the initial honeymoon is over.

Just something to consider.

Cheers dude- that will be an excellent addition to your collection.

The big difference between that and the sil spec is the neck. The Luke's neck is v-shaped, and though it's tough to feel the "v", it feels thinner to my hands. I love the silo spec neck, but I find the Luke even more comfortable in my hands. The body is also very comfortable, though so is the sil spec. (I personally think the sil spec has the most comfortable body of any guitar i've ever played.)

Everyone seems to love or hate the pickups. The thing with these EMGs is that they're very tonally balanced- they don't have a big midrange spike or a 'wah' that many pickups tend to. Accordingly it takes a while to play with your amp settings to get "your" sound out of them. (A lot of studio players like to have an even sound going into the board- you can always EQ things out of your signal, but it's tough to put things back in.)

Can they rock? Absolutely. I love 'em. They can also nail the vintage strat tone, but only in the neck+middle position. The bridge+middle position doesn't split the humbucker. I really like that sound (love it on my Morse too), but it ain't the strat sound if that's what you're looking for.

All in all, a killer guitar.

Sounds good so far, thanx. By the way I have the regular Silo with HSH NOT the Special, and I love this one. This Silo I have is already really versetile, plus I put DiMarzio Breeds in there to give it some more bite, and now I'm probably gonna replace the pots with 500K. However what I would like from the LUKE is to be a bit more darker sounding (?) than the Silhouette is. Would you guys say that it is?

Blackspy, I like the guitar but I think I could have a better one that suits me a bit more, and plus how can I deny having another Ball? I'm not expecting it to be like the Ibanez at all, but for it to be different from the Silo more towards the warmer tone side of things. Man I dont know, I just want the LUKE damn it lol!

Much as I preach about Luke's, I'm with Blackspy on this. don't sell the Ibanez until after you've had the Luke awhile (a few months) and are absolutely sure you won't miss it.

If you can't afford the luke w/o selling the Ibanez, maybe wait and save up more.

BTW I have 4 lukes and all the necks feel different from one another FWIW

YEa Tristan, thanx for the clip and nice playing! Gives me a good idea of how it sounds, without any FX since that's how I play as well  .
