Just curious... do you have a recommended shelf life for strings? Does it vary with type (e.g. Nickel/Stainless)...

...and have you considered those 'protective atmosphere' packagings that other manufacturers use (I wouldn't D'Adare name names!)

I had some Super Slinkies a while back that had rust spots on the top E string, but they looked pretty old (faded packaging)

While there is no time-specific shelf-life for a package of guitar strings, different conditions will effect the tone. If the strings have been in a humid atmosphere, there is a slight chance of oxidation. Certain alloys respond differently, but generally sets that have been on the shelf for a considerable amount of time will not sound as bright/warm as a "fresh" set of strings. Again, it all depends on the conditions of where the strings are stored, but they will definitely out last dairy products... ;)

Makes it so nice an easy to shop too. The Super Slinkys are right next to the produce isle in my store, and I can run in grab some milk, strings and bread and be out in about five mins - love it. It's the new line of "Quick-Stop GC" stores here in Nor Calif. Can't wait til Starbucks sets up the strings section too!!!

Soon we'll have strings available everywhere, and why not - EVERYONE uses Super Slinkys!!!!!:)

TNT,
while I chuckled upon reading your "one stop shop" blurb, I had to shake myself into serious mode and say .... We are here for the music dealer and the music lover!!! While it might be incredibly convenient to buy strings at the drycleaners :))) .. BP is a family man and wants to keep it that way. Take the movie "Idiocracy" for example .. costco could end up taking over the world and we might forget what water is and only drink green sugar goop. I know I am bunny-trailing .. but my caffiene is just starting to wear off

JD,

Yeah, I guess you're right!! After thinking about it, I just couldn't imagine where they would even put the "guitars" (which would obviously follow) - next to the shampoo & hairspray??!!

Oh well, go grab some more coffee, I have to run by the dry cleaners, they mentioned having a special sale today on something?? :)

Haha.. what have I started!? You ask a simple question...

I have enough trouble deciding which category to use in website directories, I wouldn't know where to start in the supermarket.

That reminds me... must remember to pick up some Slinkies from the Gas station on the way home... ;)

PS: Thanks for the serious answer too. Seriously.

maybe Pete DuBaldo could also sell strings at the pharmacy? Imagine "could I have a packet of depends and a set of Slinky's please?"

Imagine...date-stamped strings, and all of us reaching towards the back of the hanger for the newest dates.

Provided the stock is rotated.
