What's your favorite body contour??

Hi All,

I have a question for those who have multiple EBMM models. What body contour do you like the best? I'm asking because at one time I had an EVH model and found it uncomfortable because it didn't have a contour for the right forearm. I now have an EVH guitar from that "other" company, and modded it to be close to an Axis, but even though it looks and sounds great, I'm getting rid of it because of the contour problem. I once had a
Silhouette Special that I stupidly sold, and that was the most comfortable guitar I ever had. When I sell that other guitar, I'm looking for a Sil or another guitar that has the contour I like. Maybe I'm getting old, but I find more value in comfort than in
looks.

So back to the original question. Who has an Axis and another
model(Luke, Sil, Jp)? Do you favor one body style over the other? Does it
bother you going from the smooth contour to a flat top contour?

IMO the Strat style body is the most comfortable with the arm and rear contours. Many other guitars are comfortable but I just think the Strat style (and all the clones of the Strat style) are the most comfortable.

Because of my job, I have a chance to play them all...The body carves are nice, but I still like my Axis's best. I have other guitars with and without carves and don't really notice too much difference..I guess its just what feels good to you.

BTW hbucker, I was doing a couple of gigs with a drummer who had to have eye surgery on one eye.....He showed up for a gig with an eye patch, and after the first song I turned to him and said "aint no drummer like the one eyed gott," and brought the house down..eye owe you for that one bro!

Hey, it's Friday night, why's everyone home? I have two anchors(age 10 and 6) that keep me home on Friday nights.

I agree about the Strat body, it's perfect for me. One a differnet forum, there was a guy who wanted to trade a Fender Sambora for my Wolf. He was suppoossed to get back to me but never did. That would be the perfect trade for me.

I'm not sure if it's still there or not, but there used to be a video of JP testing out prototypes of his guitar. In one clip the contour wasn't in the right place, and the builder showed JP how he would move the cut instead of making it bigger.

I find the Axis SS very comfortable to play. But then, I play a lot of acoustic also. After playing a dred, the Axis feels fantastic under my arm. Besides, my body has too much contour right now anyway But, I'm working on that, as we go to the beach in a few weeks.

I have an axis and silhouette, and the silo has the most comfortable body standing up, sitting the axis is perfect but standing up you need to wear it a bit higher, but its still very comfortable and has a different vibe for that reason as well, sort of like the strat/tele comparison -

I think the Albert Lee is the most comfortable body style I own, but I'm very comfortable with the Axis as well. The Axis does have a belly contour on the back that the Wolfgang lacks, and so I find my Axes more comfortable than my Wolfgang Special for that reason (among others). The Silhouette and Sil. Special bodies are beautifully contoured and very comfortable as well, but I love the way the AL balances on the strap...

I have a Morse and an Albert Lee. The Morse doesn't have any contouring but is still comfortable. The Albert Lee, however, it practically stealth. Super lightweight (without feeling cheap), small, and contoured. Love it.

My Axis Sport (1997) is contoured in the back...along the upper mid portion of the guitar where it would normally lay against your torso. The more recent models (the ones that I have actually seen) have a contour also. Not sure if this was part of the original EVH design or if it was developed later. Anyone know?

The rear body contour is on the Axis but not the EVH. It is an improvement on the Axis IMO.

Also, moving the pickup switch down by the pots is probably better. I was always accidentally hitting the pickup switch and changing the setting on my EVH due to the switch's location. I solved the problem by rotating the switch so it moves back and forth instead of up and down. Now if I hit it (with my up and down picking motion) it doesn't move. And I can tell at a glance what pickup is selected. When it was moving up and down, sometimes I couldn't tell which position it was in by just glancing at it.

I've been serioulsy considering modding my Wolf to get the contours I want. I think I'm going to try the rear belly contour first. I mostly play sitting down and want the guitar to hug my body a little more. I'm hoping that with the belly cut, the guitar will sit at an angle and my right forarm won't dig into the edge too much.

Personally, I'm a fan of the original EVH. When I started playing again in Feb 2002, I had 2 Axes, and they were ultimately replaced by my 2 EVH's I possess right now. I don't like the bevel that they added in the Axis back, though popular opinion says that it's a great thing to happen to the guitar. It makes me uncomfortable, but hey, to each their own, ya know?

Its the Albert Lee for me. The size, balance and weight couldn't be any better. I love my Axis SS too but I favor the AL.
