whats your favorite pickup configuration?

What's your favorite pickup configuration on stingrays? I'm still waiting to try a HH or HS, but haven't seen one at Guitar Center yet. I still think i'm going to like the single H though.

+1. I'm a very simple kinda guy when it comes to playing bass. Even my J@zz Bass has too many options & I never know what sound I want. Fortunately, it rarely gets played these days!

Definitely HH. While the majority of basses go up to "H", this one goes up to "HH". It's like, one more "H", isn't it? Gives you that classic bridge humbucker sound, but with the ability to solo the neck humbucker for a very (dare I say) P-like sound. Not to mention all the tonal variation in between. That's my two cents/pence/(insert currency here).

I had a fretless Sterling with the H/Piezo option and found it to be a real nice sounding bass. I now have a fretted HH SR4 and have owned quite a few single H's in my time. Here is my take on it. I love simplicity and the classic SR tone as much as the next guy. For recording, the HH has proven to be a major plus. Positions 2 and 4 sound awesome. For regular band practice and gigging, the single H is perfect for me, as I generally find one good tone and stick with it. And the bridge H is where I always end up.

My favorite combination is EBMM pickups combined with EBMM electronics in an EBMM bass.....

Seriously, since I'm not a gear ho I don't have experience with all the various combos, but I will say that I definitely want to have a piezo, no matter what else is installed.

Classic single H for me... followed closely by the single H with coil configuration switch (a la Sterling and SR5).

Really, the only complaint I have with the HH and HS is that they are wired in Series (on the Sterling and SR5), which is my least favorite sound for Musicman basses.

I'll jump on the bandwagon to say I also favor the single H Ray.
(I have the HH Ray and have played the HS @ GC)

I'm also really liking my newly aquired 2-band but the piezo/H
Ray must be great too (I love my piezo fretless).

As long as it's a Ray . . it's the best! Be happy w/any config...

ill chime in as an HH fan here. I have had an H before and now own a 30th (H) and and SR4 HH.

IMHO the HH is rediculously amazing!!!! and dont forget the standard H is "in there". If i could only have one SR4 it would be an HH... no question in my mind. of course thats all my opinion and everyone's different.

But i really like the added versatility and "fun" of the HH. its awesome. Ive never played an HS Sr4 so i cant compare that to the HH.

When I bought my single H SR5, GC had a Bongo 5 HH on sale, and both were the same price-(both used and Bongo had some chips in it and the setup was done by somebody who apparently never played bass or any other instrument)

but even tho I really liked the sound(s) of the Bongo, i bought the SR5 single H for the sake of simplicity. I knew I would fiddle with the knobs and switch forever on the Bongo, and it would distract me -- and I have no regrets about the SR5

At the moment, HH. My SR5 HS is on order. My drummer suggested the single H, but I was always a J bass player so I was very comfortable with a neck pickup to anchor my thumb on. I bought the SR5 HH after playing it at the store for only a few minutes. I knew it was my tone, and the neck was perfect!

1. HH or HS gives you that extra thumb rest if you like that.
2. You could always toggle to the single H, although most would say it's not the same as a real single H.
3. Just more tone options to me. I don't use effects, so I just want the bass tone to the preamp. Simple.

Out of my SR4H, SR4HH, SR5H, and Sterling HS, I'd definitely go with the Sterling HS! Smoking little bass!!

As much as i like my SR5 HH my favorite sound was with my single H Ray with 2 bands preamp that i no longer own...

Single H for me, in the alnico if you please. Yeah yeah, I know my only EBMM is the complete opposite.

IMO.........
Stingray 5H..... 1 Pickup all the way. Still Very versatile. With the coil tap and 3 band eq, many different sound possibilities.
I wish in my opinion though , that for the Stingray HH, that they made individual coil taps for each pickup and have a pu blend like the Bongo. Instead of a 5 way switch.
I like the 1 pu because being a Jaco, Jeff Berlin and Gary Willis fan, they use only the bridge pickup and the single coil mode on the Stingray 5 or Sterling gives a real nice Jazz bass sound and the Serious gives it that sound on steroids.
