Seeing how it's only available for JP and a knucklehead Rich Brymer who were lucky enough to get his hands on one of them, I'd say it's very limited XD
Certainly limited indeed. Rich doesn't have his any longer unfortunately. I forget who he said has it in their possession.

I know who has it, they brought it in for some work a few months ago. Nut slots too low, full setup, strings, toggle, etc. They dropped it off when I was out and when I got back and opened the case my jaw hit the floor, I had no idea that guitar was coming in.

I think the 2006 LE Axis is my favorite. I would love to find one.

I'd actually like to try out any rosewod board Axis.

Oh man! That's awesome. Wish I could've seen it in person too. Had it been mishandled or what since it required that much work? You don't happen to know how much they bought it for from Rich Brymer? 'Cause holy moly, that's one guitar I'd almost pay anything for.

Is that a JPX or a BFR JP?

The Silverburst is a BFR JP

(JPX will have 5 way toggle and narrower upper horn)

Yes, like this. The JPX will also have the JPX-shield at top of fretboard instead of JP-shield, although that wasn't visible on the 2 pictures I posted but it is visible on other pictures that you had of the guitar Pete.

Here's the link to more pictures: Unavailable - John Petrucci BFR Silver Burst
And here's a better picture showing the JP-shield, rather than the JPX-shield:

The last time that we spoke about it, he did say, but for the life of my cannot recall the details of how much, or if it was in trade for guitar gear, etc. But I do recall the conversation about that particular guitar on several occasions. He does visit the boards from time to time here and over at Petrucci Forum, Rich would be the best person to ask about those details.

Great guitar for sure, and being that only two were made, one of them in JP's vault! :)

Good call on the Bahama blue jp Tommy as it is one of the best finishes they have ever done. But like yourself I am an EVH/Axis guy at heart. Though if Petrucci just felt like he needed one model with a chunkier neck he would make at least a 1,000 guys happy for sure.

Also a nice call on the 20th Jonny as that one is still on the wish list.

I would not fret as we seem to have an LE each year and I see many more in the future.

Well, I have a Dargie I and a Radiance Red (non LE) but I do really like the simple Black/Gold from '06. I think the Buttercream is super classy too with it's nice case, but my white one's fading to a beige-ish colour anyway :p
