Ok, I know we're talking MM basses here, but I just wanted to know what you guys play with when you're moonlighting. I actually give lots of time to my Lakland, it won't get you a MM tone exactly, but man it's close. It won't give you a Jazz tone exactly either, but again, too close to tell without really listening. It's got it's own voice and I like it.....most people do actually when they hear the thing. The neck is flatter and wider than the SR...not quite as much FUN to play as the Ray', but fast and the scale is 35". As a matter of fact, not many basses I've played have the "Fun Factor" that my SR has, the thing is a dream to play.

I've been test driving a Lakland 55-02, which is quite the animal. But there's just something about my SR5 that's....I don't know.....to good to put down.

Otherwise, my main two bassea are my Desert Gold Bongo and my Honey Burst SR5.

Careful bro.......you'll end up buying that Lakland I bet. The 55-02 is consistently rated one of the top values an the market. Same electronics as the 55-94, made in Korea but reworked when it gets to the US. Check the article out on Lakland's website.....

Back to our regularly scheduled thread......

Probably, but I can't seem to let my SR5 go. They'll have to learn to get along.

My gals play nice but I'll admit it's tough choosing who you want to take to the dance..............

So's to keep peace in the family
the gals all sleep together
in the same room
but in separate beds

So's to keep each of them
special in my heart
none of them are allowed
to wear each other's stuff
or do each other's chores

I allocate numbers to my basses and spin a roulette wheel before each gig. Last night, Bongo + '76 P ....

rig1.jpg

Previous gig, Stingray + Tokai P. Gig before that, Stingray + Gibson EB-4L. Variety is the spice of life.

i have a 2004 Fender USA P with a badass bridge and quarter pounder pups. i like it quite a bit (traded a gibson sg for it).

i think its the action that makes me pick that one up tho. i had some local dude do a setup on it and the damn thing plays really fast.

I've only got my black Bongo 4HH. And it does the job very well. If I were to get another bass, it'd probably be a black Bongo 5HH (or a sparkly blue SR :p), but I'm low on cash and am taking quite a liking to my four banger, one-bass setup.

My main bass for years has been a USA Hamer Cruise fretted 4. It's got SD/Basslines Antiquity IIs in it with a 2 position switch; one position is straight up jazz wiring, the other is a potentiometer bypass with a treble shunt. Tres dub...

Best 60s style J on the market, bar none (imo). I recently got a fretless 4 to match it.

Those 2 and my Stingray make up the whole enchilada...

For me, for now, I can only justify owning multiple basses as a means to fill multiple needs... (and my wife buys into the reasoning - a HUGE relief!)

My Sterling is the ultimate bass for me - plays the main role.

My "other" is a Tacoma CB10E3 (looks like this). I use it for unamplified settings and it KILLS! Cuts through like no other acoustic bass I've seen.

I love each of these two basses equally, relative to their role.

My one remaining vacancy is for a fretless... Haven't quite decided yet, but I'm thinking about another Sterling...

Seeing as my other bass is a Peavey Fury something or other (My 1st bass when I was younger) for me, there is no "other bass"

The bass that most often accompanies a Bongo on a gig is my Fender CS Relic '59 PBass. You just can't beat a PBass with flats for blues. The DeArmond Ashbory will also start making some regular trips to gigs, too.

I've also got a US Curbow fretless prototype in hibernation until I can get the brazillian rosewood fretboard leveled, and a magical Cort Curbow Retro for when I want that Jazz Bass thing.

But, a Bongo is always ever present at my gigs. Sometimes, both of them go.

Oh, heh...and my 8 string fretless doesn't find a lot of use in my current gigs, but it does get some playing time at home.

The one that usually accompanies my SR5 to gigs is my 55-02. Now that I have my Bongo, I'm still trying to decide between the SR5 and the 55-02. I'm leaning towards keeping the 55-02. The Bongo can get real close to a Stingray sound, but the Lakie is a totally different animal.
