What's your "Other" bass when the SR is on the rack?

The one that usually accompanies my SR5 to gigs is my 55-02. Now that I have my Bongo, I'm still trying to decide between the SR5 and the 55-02. I'm leaning towards keeping the 55-02. The Bongo can get real close to a Stingray sound, but the Lakie is a totally different animal.

That was one of the reasons I kept my SR5, the tone is unique and although the Lakland gets "close", it's not it. Can't say how close the Bongo gets, but I'll bet it gets closer than the Lakie.... The other reason I kept her is the Stingray is just too well thought out........it's got presence....you know, that vibe

Hmm, this is an interesting thread if ever I've spotted one. Some great basses mentioned. Now for the most part all of my basses are MM or MM related. For instance, the main is the SUB, I know I have a Sterling but I just have much more fun with the SUB. Yeah you can try figuring that one out. The most played simply out of the convenience of a soft-case would have to be my OLP EB MM five string. Those OLP's are Fantastic Budget basses! Hell, they're fantastic basses all around! Then, what's been in the shop for weeks and weeks, simply because I haven't been able to drive all the way to the next town(what we do for a good shop eh?) is a very old El Degas P that's basically a junker. You have to smack it sometimes to get it to work... But I love any P-bass, P-basses and stingray's are really where it's at in my mind.

Geez, I forgot to mention my Sterling. I'm kinda ashamed. Sadly I don't play this much at all, firstly it hurts my amp, and I have to get the pickup fixed with some of that blue 242 stuff I believe? It keeps sliding up and that makes it hurt my amp even more. And there's just something about it, it's so fancy, I need a bass I can really not worry about and just think about playing.

Most of us, given that we are members of the EBMM forum, use an EBMM bass as our main squeeze, but it's fun to see what else is out there. I've owned many of the basses mentioned, so that's personally interesting for me to see how those basses are perceived.

I had to sell of a few basses lately to fund some other things, but no one yet has mentioned the Reverend basses. I already miss mine. Them's good basses.

Enjoyed the pics from Dallas.....especially the 4am Heinz shot(the dude in the back{Andy?} with the blank stare says it all.....heheheh). She's(Heinz) a looker....what would you say the color is described as....maybe trans green? Anyhow, it's fair to say that on a MM forum, we are all hopelessly addicted to the MM tone and feel....nothing wrong with that I say! It's funny, I mainly use my Lakland in church, that's why I got her. In order to use the 'Ray I need to tone it down a bit and I just don't like doing that, kind of like putting a muzzle on her.....

My favorite bass is of course my SR5 and I use it on my gig with various backup basses.

If I’m going to a rowdy drunken jam I usually take a 99 Hot Rod P bass, nice bass I got for cheap. I’ve been trying to decide which of the 11 basses to sell. I want to whittle that number down to 5 or 6.

But if the house was on fire and I could only grab two basses I would take the SR5 and my 78 P-bass.

Backing up my SR5 and graphite necked SR 4 is a Jaco signature. Nice bass sometimes wish I could use it more but the SR4 is one of the best basses I have played..

I allocate numbers to my basses and spin a roulette wheel before each gig. Last night, Bongo + '76 P ....

Previous gig, Stingray + Tokai P. Gig before that, Stingray + Gibson EB-4L. Variety is the spice of life.

Mark, that picture of your rig in the park is a work of art. Incidentally, at the rate you're going, you'd have to invent a bigger roulette wheel, wouldn't you?

51 re-issue Pbass, Rickenbacker 4001, and a G&L 2500.I do a lot of gigs with my upright. I just recently aquired the Ric and am still in the honeymoon period.

I have a bunch of others that I do try to use every once in a while.Fretless 72 Pbass, regular 72 Pbass, Dano Longhorn, Rivoli,and a Jazz V.

They are all different sounding instruments but none of them have the bark of my Ray. The Jazz V gets the least attention but it is a nice bass and records well.

My backup was a G&L L2k. Now its fixing to be a Jazz bass with a j retro preamp as soon as it gets here from the guy that I traded the L2K to. If I dont like it Ill probably sell it for another SR5. Darn it Ive got to stop this gear whoring!!

Mister Morrow, I know you do photography for a living, but how did you light that photo? That is just gorgeous.

Just available light and a tripod.The living room has a lot of windows and is very bright. I just used a little Fuji point and shoot and turned the flash off. That little camera looks kind of silly on a substantial tripod but it works.

This thread does indeed intrest me. I am presently using a Fender Jazz for a backup but usually won't take it since getting my SR 5.

I am still trying to figure out which EB 5 stringer will be my backup bass. One of the toughest decisions I will ever have to make I am sure. My SR5 loves me and I it. I don't need a 4 string backup in my opinion.

Back to the decsion making here.

Sounds like a second SR5 is in your future!

Since I am not a working musician, I can't say I ever need a "back-up" bass. I have varied musical interests and I am drawn to different basses to fill a specific need/purpose.

But that's just me... It's facinating to see both the other models of basses that folks have, as well as understanding why folks have them... Be it professional requirements, collector, investor or obsession.

I an certainly not a professional muscian. Do have a bunch of gigs as summer comes on here. I do believe in a backup when being paid. When not paid I won't worry about it.

I am debating Bongo5 or SR5 for sure. While I build my savings I guess it is a pleasant if not difficult debate I am having with myself.

My Stingray collection includes two '79 Stingrays, a 20th anniversary ray and an '87 stingray body waiting patiently for me to get a Status graphite neck. Oh yeah, I also bought the infamous 'diamondplate' stingray, and will be refinishing the body soon. My main squeeze is the Olympic White '79

I have several other basses that get playing time, just depends on my mood and which songs we are playing each week.

My main bass is the SR5, of course. I have a new backup, and it's already been mentioned here. It's the Tacoma CB10E4. I love the Tacoma so much that I've been thinking about bumping down to another 4 string as my main axe. With that in mind, I pulled out one of my 3 MM Fender Jazz basses, but the sound just stinks compared to the SR5. (One of my Jazzes is fretless; I'm not sure why I have 2 fretted ones. They're just hard to sell).
