What's Your Practice Rig?

I used to just play through the BIG RIG with 2 ampeg cabs at home, too, but have changed it up recently since my dream has come true - a complete Peavey rig!

Yes, a Session Bass head and my pawn shop 1-15, both Peaveys. Playing along with CDs or working on tunes with my songwriting buddy Brian, the thing sounds great no matter which bass I use.

So there. Lord Bongo has a Peavey rig! And he DIGS it!

So what's your practice amp?

I have an Ampeg B-50R but I think it's just taking up space. Might off it if I can find someone local who needs it. Yes, yes, the Peavey sounds better.

i just use my standerd rig, hartke 350 watt head and my carvin 4 10's...i dont practice with an amp at home

Behringer BX600 combo
60 watts, 12" speaker

Low end combo amp that has and continues to serve its purpose well. It can get really loud, but I've never had to turn it up that much - my room is small and the walls are thin. Plus it has a four-band EQ. It's like lookin' into the future, when I get mah Bonger!

A gripe or two about this one: Big and heavy as hell for its size and wattage. It weighs in at around 48lbs. and measures to be about 21" x 18" x 12". This certainly is a nice combo amp, a lot better than the P.O.S. Hartke Kickback 15 that's at my church, but it's so damn hyuge! What pains me about this is that there are larger watt amps that are both lighter and smaller. It's a matter of efficiency, I guess.

I've actually got 2 practice rigs... the first (which has pretty much retired from overall abuse) is a Fender Sidekick. Small, low power... but is good in a pinch. My main Practice amp is 1 of my 2 SWR Silverado Specials (the other is part of my gig rig along with a SWR Triad). Drawback is that it is big (I also use it as an endtable in my office). 2x12 @350 watts. Size aside, it has some serious power and does a great job with 5 strings.

As a sidenote, my 1st amp (which later became my practice amp for over 10 years) was a Peavey TNT 150. For what it was, it was great (only sold it when I ran into a money crunch coming out of college - otherwise I would probably still have it). Lord Bovine has nothing to be ashamed of (afterall a man with that many Bongos deserves just a bit of respect )

My living room practice amp is an Ampeg SVT100T, which is an old 2x8 solid state combo.

My rehearsal studio practice rig is my SWR SM400 with the Goliath Jnr 2x10 cab.

The amp I play through the most at home is my Phil Jones Briefcase.

But, I will occassionally still play through my main small rig which is a GK1001RB through an Aguilar GS112.

I was just reminded by my old guitar player that my main gig rig for 4 years was 2 Peavey MegaBass Heads, 2 Peavey 18x20 cabs (1x18, 2x10) and 2 Peavey 410s. The word I would use is loud - 1600 watts I believe (800 a side)... (maybe a bit on the muddy side - but then again I didn't know how to properly eq my stuff). If I had to pick another word... heavy!!!! But Peavey makes some solid stuff (not my fav stuff in a head to head comparison - but I do love their older lines - the new Peavey equipment is missing something)

My practice rig is one of the old Fender Bassman 400 2x10 combos (several years before they replaced it with the 400Pro combo). Its not quite loud enough for band practices so I have to line-out it to our PA. My gigging rig is a GK1001RB-II through an Ampeg 810E, which is a wee bit overpowering for practices.

Currently sitting in the AntHill living room is a Gallien Krueger 400RB/115.
280W@4ohm, 180W@8ohm, 1 kHz. (150W Into Internal Speaker.)
1xGK-Paragon 15B200-8 15", 200W, 8 ohm High Presence Voice Coil.

Really loud and flexible. Not always the best for condo Ant colony living though!

I also use a Korg PX4B Tone Works Pandora personal effects box with head sets for the early morning, play while the Mrs. is sleeping.

jon, the sterling plays like butter! i have yet to gig with it, but i have a feeling it'll let the ol' SR4 have a few nights off in the near future.

In order not to frighten the cats or the wife I DI into a Soundraft Mixer, which also has CD, MD, Cassette and an Alesis SR16 as inputs. This drives a Behringer headphone amp. For rehearsals I use a Peavey Microbass. To test out something or set-up a new bass then I set up my Ashdown stack in the garage.

I have a Peavey amp too man! But my practice amp (even though technically i don't gig often) is a basic crappy fender squire amp. I never use it,, blah!

ive got 2. a squier bp-15 which hasnt been played since september 2003. and an ampeg ba-210sp. 220 watts, 2x10.

My new at home practice amp is a Fender Rumble 100 watt, and does it rumble, very good low end.
I also have a Washburn Baddog 30 watt I hook up to my laptop computer to play CD's through.
My gig amp at church is a Fender Bassman 100, I love it.

My practice rig is my retired old gig rig. It is a late 70's Peavy Mark III series 400BH head (210watts @ 4ohms, 300@ 2 ohms), and a Peavy 1x18 2x10 "Black Widow" cab. I found it in a pawn shop about 8 or 9 years ago. I also have one of those crate bx15 (10 watt 1x8) monsters that I don't use.

Don't usually use one at home. Occasionally, I'll plug into the Trace, but the house is made out of paper or something and it's not too fair on the neighbours
