When did the MM cases change?

Does anyone know when the cases changed from the Fender style TKL? case to the new moulded one?

Also, was there ever a tweed version of that old case and if so, what model/s came in it?

Strange questions, but there is a reason for asking.

I'm guessing here but I think that they switched in the late 90' or early 2000 to the SBK molded cases.

The Limited Edition models come in a brown fender style case with a plaque with the year and stuff on it.

I don't think I've ever seen them in tweed cases. So places that sold EBMM use to break the case away from the guitar and sell them as a separate thing. They claimed to have the best prices, but in actuallity it was the same price as everywhere else. So people bought fender tweed cases or whatever other kind of case they had at the time.

I'm pretty sure that the EVH's came in the fender style black tolex case. I prefer the newer SKB molded cases, they are very durable and I think that they protact the instrument a lot better.

I've got a "tweed" one (actually, a blond tolex one with brown leather on the corners) that came with my Albert Lee... It's very "Fenderish" in cosmetics, and it's definitely an EBMM case.

My 1998 Axis Sport came in this case... (DOB 02/03/1998) I don't know anything about how long EBMM used this type of cases! They are gorgeous, though!

He only got the guitar last week and Sterling Ball (Big Poppa) has confirmed the signatures to be genuine.
Any chance of you taking a photo of the guitar close to you and posting it ?

Re the case debate - I got my EB AL just after Xmas and I have the moulded case.
The guitar I love but if I had my choice I wouldn't have had the black moulded case.
I much prefer the look of the tolex cases.
The black case shows white scratches very easily.
Am I that bothered ? .... nah!
If I get another AL and it doesn't have a case I'll get a Hiscox case made here in the UK. I have one for my Tele and they are ace.

That's correct, I only received it last week. I bought it on the internet in a shop in the UK (probably the same shop where you (12 string) saw it!)

all their cases are black
but a case for a 7 string is red on the inside

Confusion over, the one I saw has now been sold - it looks as though it IS the same Axis (I thought I was going mad for a while then).

Nice guitar - and the tolex case gets my vote every time.

Hi Owen,

It was for sale at Rock Factory, Castleford.

There was a photo on their website as well, but it is no longer listed as stock so I'm guessing it's the same one that's now in Belgium.
