when was the piezo added to the stingray?

i was wondering when the piezo was added to the stingray and if getting one on a classic would be an option or not?


i played on a piezo equipped stingray today and thought sheesh if the thing had flats and mutes it'd sound exactly like an upright, or at least as close to an upright an electric can get.(nothing truly sounds as awesome as the upright) and close as humanly possible to an upright for under 7000(the price of an upright) is pretty bitchin' to me.

I think 2001 was the first year...

Going by the clippings I have, it was 1999 for the SR4 and 2000 for both the SR5 and Sterling.
