Where does Luke sign a Luke?

Hey there. I'm off to see Toto tomorrow at the HOB in Chicago. I was fortunate enough to score a backstage pass to meet Steve and also to bring along my Luke for him to sign.

Question is this. I have two Luke's. One is Black Sparkle and the other a brand new Dargie. I want to take the Dargie and have him sign this one. Where would be the best place, do you think, to have him sign it? I'm a little cautious because the Dargie is obviously limited and I'm real particular about that one for obvious reasons. I'm thinking there are 3 possible places. First, on the back, under the Dargie Delight lettering. Second, on the upper bout, like the Blue Dawn I recently saw on a current post, or horizontal to the bridge. I have a silver and gold paint pen to bring.

Whats your 2 cents. Your advice is appreciated.

There is no room on the back of the headstock on at LUKE. The EB address is there.

My personal choice would be to have an artist sign the inside of the backplate to the trem cavity. The sig is going to fade anywhere on the guitar. One might even rub it off with one's clothes, arms, hands, sweat, whatever. If it's on the inside of the backplate, well...I won't have that rubbing off problem. Plus, it's hidden from view (after one screws the backplate back on), which is a big plus to me, because I prefer to keep the stock appearance of my guitars as much as possible. That's just me. So, I've got an autographed guitar. The autograph is protected, and it's hidden, which I like. I like knowing that the autograph is there, but I don't want to look at it all the time. And, I don't care if anyone else knows about it. So, no reason to show it to anyone.

The other plus of having the backplate signed is that you won't have to carry the guitar or leave it anywhere. Just carry the backplate in your back pocket, jacket pocket, or something.

So, maybe you shouldn't bring him your Luke to sign it. You should bring an ASS instead (I'd say Balls, but that's obviously not a female type body part)

OT...I played david's DD a few weeks ago and that finish is just fantastic...I understand the succes...I hope there will be more ideas like that in the future.

I think that is a fantastic idea, you could then have it professionally covered to keep forever. Darn I wish I had a DD, they are so beautiful.

I'm with Rob here, the inside of the trem plate is where I had Luke sign mine.

Then there's no reason for the signature to get covered or trashed.

If you are lucky enough to get him put his signature on your Luke, it's pretty much just the same where he likes to sign it. But it might be little different here, because he visits here once a year..and that is a good year!. Usually when Toto releases a new record.

It's apparently a relatively major undertaking to have that done. I'm not sure what's involved, but the surface has to be essentially prepared for paint. So, I don't know what that entails. peedo_deedo looked into it to have the autographs on his JPs preserved. He seems to have decided that it wasn't worth it. There was some risk involved if I remember the story correctly.

Thanks for the input. Since this is a Dargie, she won't be seeing any heavy out of my house playing use. I'm not a pro, just a GASaholic, so I'm not too worried about it rubbing off.

I really like the way Luke signed the BD in the post. I have a PRS that Tremonti signed and I had it done right below the bridge away from where your hand might rest of hit. It looks pretty nice there. I also recently met Michael Angelo Batio at a clinic and had him sign a Dean, which I had him do on the back side.

I guess I'm just conflicted with the fact that the Dargie is limited. I can't imagine that having Luke's signature on the front would affect its value. I have a few hours left, so I guess I'll have to figure that out. But I'm leaning towards the way that Luke signed that BD. Thanks again
