Hi there. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom. Its around a year n a half old and ive been using the STOCK strings that came with it. I'm thinking of replacing them with Ernie Ball strings. But which one should I get - Regular Slinky or Skinny Top Heavy Bottom?

I mainly play stuff like Metallica, Slayer etc. I play metal riffs and also solos. And im mostly in Standard Tuning but sometimes Drop D. I dont go lower than that.

So yeah.. I need strings which are good for metal riffs AND solos. So.. which Ernie Ball product should i get?

I'd go for the Slinky's (10-46). Also, try a set of the Hybrid Slinkys. They're 9-46's. basically the wound strings from a Slinky set, and the unwound strings from the Super Slinkys. Still good for drop tunings, but the unwound strings are easier to bend.

If you do any drop tuning lower than D, then I'd give the STHB's a try.

Anony,

You came to the right place!!!

If I were you I would use the Super Slinky 9-42, Classic Rock n Roll strings. They're awesome to say the least!!! I play the same and drop D all the time for the Van Halen trib band I'm in.

You can go with 10's, but for what you play there is no need to go with "top/heavy".

All you need now is an Axis - then you're really good to go!:)

Love those SS strings !!

Thanks a lot guys. =) Then I guess ill get Regular Slinky(10-46) and a Hybrid (9-46).

Actually i think Hybrid would fit my needs perfectly. =)

Once again, thanks for your help guys.

Ihave been using the 9-46's for a long time.I think that there great for metal. You can dig in the low string's without them being to floppy and the 9's on the top bend easy.:)
