Thanks guys for your advices. :)

Slukather I agree with you.
On one hand, I don't have an unlimited budget, but on the other hand, I didn't buy a $1500 guitar to use it with a cheap amp. I think I will try to find a 5150 combo in a music store to test it.

Fred, as I love the tube amp sounds, I was thinking of buying one. But I have heard some people who really likes modelling amps (Lin6 Flextone ...) that gives them closed different tube amp sounds. I think I can find one to test it.

koogie thanks for your clips, it gives good examples of what u can get with a Pod XT !

So Line6 receives 3 points
The 5150 receives 2 points

I am a bit surprised. I would have thought that a lot of people here would use mesa boogies amps and would advice to buy one.

there are a ton of good used 5150 combos on ebay...that is how i got mine and i am very happy with it.

some people want new and i can see that point too.

Don't rule out no name brands, brands you've never heard off, remember, Mesa Boogie, peavey, Marshall etc started off as a no name brand.

Personally, l think mesa boogies are, overprices, and overrated.

You also might want to check out the Peavey xxx, it also comes in a combo. You can have either 6l6 or el34 tubes in it, it has a nice clean sound, and a nice dirty sound.

I've heard good things about ENGL (sp?) amps. You might want to try one of those. But, when you get your guitar, just go to every music store, and plug into everything, and play, and let your ears be the judge, and not the signture on the amp. :)

Did someone test a Carvin Vai amp ?
What kind of sound can we get with a F30 or F50 mesa ?

Blackspy, in fact I didn't express myself very good. My priority is not the clean sound, it is to get a killer lead sound.
But if some amps have also a decent (not incredible but decent) clean sound that would be nice.
About the piezo I'm thinking about using a small accoustic amp or a PA.

Koogie, which amp did Dimebag use ?

I believe Dimebag used a Randall. He was endorsed by them for the Randall Warheads. But, rumor is, he used other stuff to record with. Most do that anyway. He was very specific on the use of solid state gear though. Last I heard, he was getting ready to use another amp.....crate comes to mind, but on that I could be wrong.

I've heard the same things, That Dime didn't use Randells for recording, or maybe it was live, can't remember. But l do remember he was gonna use another amp, don't know how true it was though.

Dime had switched to Krank amps & back to Dean guitars prior to his untimely death.

Haven't heard much about the amps myself but lots of the "Dean" guys seem to be into them (because Dime was I think)

Count me in for the Line 6 Stuff. I have a Flextone it's great, can't be beaten for versatility and the only people that can really tell the difference in modeled tones are other guitarists... sometimes. IMHO :)

Well, the only amp that I tested with my EBMM Petrucci and it sounds great... was the Carvin MTS3200. Not only sounds good but the Piezo sounds even better. Give it a try. I recommend it.
