Mine's really embarassing

My introduction to EBMM guitars came through Australia's premium online EBMM dealer... That's right the one and only Colin.

We grew up together but we hadn't seen each other for a couple of years and we caught up at the birth of his first daughter. Of course our wives talked children and we talked guitars. He said that he was playing Ernie Ball guitars now... my response "I thought they only made strings". We've all heard that response a few times haven't we?He invoyed me to come over and have a play of them. I took the opporunity and played his Morse & EVH. I was hooked from then on.

The beauty of this is that not only did I discover EBMM guitars, but I re-established a friendship with an old friend and his lovely wife & daughters, I also discovered some great guitar players in Steve Morse, Albert Lee & John Petrucci (I was already a fan of Luke). Then to top it all off I discovered this forum and all of the great people on here.

Ok I'm going off for a cry now

First played an EBMM about 6 years ago ....

... and finally after going thru several other guitars and other toys got my first Ball - my honeyburst Super Sport in Jan 06 after ordering one thru local store and waiting for what seemed like a life-time (okay, so only 3 months).

why/what inspired me to buy? it was the combination of feel, sound, look, and weight of the Super Sport. I had arguably the worst and most craziest g.a.s. and ocd goin' on when I decided to get one. Am happy that I did:D

.... that said, I was aware of EBMM guitars thanks in part to Keith Richards and to Steve Morse - late 80s into early 90s.

I never did equate EBMM with any artist, to be honest. Not even Steve Morse. I mean, I knew he used EBMM, but that's not what made me want one. I've always heard about how good their quality is, and how expensive the guitars were. Back then, I had no $$$ to buy any guitars like this, and simply didn't know that much either. I thought that the price tag was justified by the quality. That was back then...

But I remember the first ever EBMM I saw up close. I'll never forget it. I have no way in chance of ever owning it, and I don't know who does, so I can't buy one off them.

This was a Silo. Back in the mid 90s, I think... It was black sparkle, HEAVY birdseye maple, maple fretboard, pearloid pickguard, natural headstock and a trem. It was so beautiful looking, I kinda forgot anything else was in the store. I seriously fell in love. The guitar looked so damned expensive, that I didn't dare pick it up. I went back a month later, and it was gone.

I thought of custom ordering such a piece again, but I know there are no more black sparkles available, and no more Silos with heavy birdseye. Oh well...

I managed to satisfy myself now by getiing 2 Silo 20ths... (2nd one on the way! Thanks Phil!) But one day, I know I'll still be craving for this one...:(

I would have to say Steve Lukather inspired me to try ebmm. I'm only 14, but when the I got the toto in amsterdam dvd in 2003 I just couldn't believe what i was hearing. I think Steve Lukather has some of the best tone ever. I also just couldn't get over how cool the guitar looked. I ha been saving to get one for a year or two(being 12 it was hard to get money). Last year though, a man at my church decided to buy me my dream luke. My family has les pauls from the 60's and fender jaguars from the 60's, and none of them play as well as the luke. I can't get my dad to stop playing it.

My inspiration was Barry Lucking - bass player in a band I was in.
He brought along his EB Bass and I was so impressed.
fasr forward a year or so..

I saw on DVD Mr Albert Lee who and fell in love with his tone.
The shape of the guitar had to grow on me!!

Now it's a full circle because Barry Lucking after hearing mine - went out and got himself an Albert Lee.

in all honesty, my first musicman type guitar was an olp mm1, and i bought it because it was purple and looked cool...although i was only about 16 at the time.

Was only after selling the guitar and buying it back again, that i was inspired by Bowling For Soup's SS slinging front man Jarret Reddick.

His super sport with custom paint job sounds amazing, and it's inspired me to finally buy the real thing!

picked up my first Axis today after winning an auction on ebay. Drove 200 miles there and back with a friend to pick her up =]

Phazer, that's a great story! One which I especially like as it has a happy ending. :)

When I decided to learn the guitar, EBMM was my only consideration because of the very strong endorsement by Steve Lukather. They are a family company that chooses to treat its customers right and go the extra mile (or two!) to provide exceptional service, in addition to building a quality instrument right here in the United States. They take pride in their work. What more could one ask of a manufacturer? I knew nothing about innovation; these points alone were what sold me.

I also knew nothing about electric guitars. Didn't know the difference between EMG or Dimarzio, single coil or humbucking, 22 frets or 24 frets, bridge or neck pickups, neck radius, fretwire, tone woods, string gauges, etc. What it came down to, for me, was that Luke was happy--not just satisfied--with EBMM.

The first time I played one was when the one I ordered, my very first guitar--a Luke--came in some months after I'd ordered it.

I've never owned a non-EBMM guitar. Some on this forum say that I'm spoiled. They are probably right. :D

Hi, I was wondering: what, or who inspired you to choose music man guitars, and what happend when you first tried one?

I think I realized for the first time what great instruments they are while I was watching steve morse play with deep purple.
I saw this strange headstock 4+2 and didnt' know what guitar it was, but the sound was amazing.
I can actually remember thinking "those must be the best guitars out there!"
Then I saw EVH with that same headstock, but just couldn't figure out what it was.
Then, after some riserches on google, I found out they were playing music man guitars.
I was totally blown away, they became my dream.
Then I started listening to dream theater and just loved petrucci's tone.
You can imagine my reaction when I found out he also played music man :p
So that was it, just decided these guitars must be special, but never thought one day I would have been able to have one.
Then one day I went to this huge music store about 50km from where I live; it was nearly my 18th birthday and my parents said that they wanted to get something special, so being guitars my greatest passion, I obviously said I would like a new guitar.
So we went along, started trying some ibanez signature models, but I already had an Ibanez and they all kinda felt the same.
Then tried an ESP but didn't like the EMG's.
Then I saw that 4+2 headstock
I immediately picked up a blue JP, plugged it in and as soon as I layed my hand on the neck I forgot about all the other guitars
Anyway, I played from 4pm till 6pm :p
Then I though "ther's no way my parents are buying me such an expensive guitar, might as well put it back and look for something else"
But then my mom said "Why are you putting it down? I thought you loved it"
I said "Yes, I do, but it's way beyond the price range we established"
And she replyed "Look, if you feel that's the guitar you want, there's no point in tryin others, so happy birthday!! but don't tell your dad how much it cost or we'll have to take it back and use the money to pay the lawyer for the divorce :p"
My blood went cold, I REALLY didn't expect this!!!
I called the guy, and told him to prepare it.
But then he showed me the LE2006 he had in store, and I stayed there another hour deciding which one to choose...
In the end I chose the LE06. :p
Now lets hear your story of how you became Ball'o'maniac

For me,my first contact with Music Man was, when I saw Steve Morse playing with Deep Purple and Lso,though i thought he had a great guitar,i was not in that"o my god i want this guitar" mood. But when my brother told me(he is a drummer) that his friend,a guitarist, was totally amazed by the Playing of John Petrucci,i bought Images and Words and was blown away!!

The whole album is my all time favorite and I dreamed for several years of buying a Music Man Guitar(though he played a Ibanez on I&W ).But a for example a silhouette is about 2500$-3000$ here in the EU.Then last year,I found a brand new JP6 MD in new condition on ebay for good $$ and bought it...in the future I won´t buy any other guitar without this 2+4 Headstock anymore....EBMMs are the best!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

I actually tried an ASS when I was first learning to play. One of the local guitars stores is an EBMM dealer and the sales guy (who I've known for years and is a cool dude) pulled this $$$$ guitar off the back counter and let me take it to the back and noodle on it. It was red SS with a finished maple neck. I remember looking up at my friend and saying "God D*%N this neck is comfy!" Then I found out Vinnie Moore played them (didn't find out about EVH until much later), and then found out about Petrucci. So really I fell in love with them before I even knew who played them!

I still don't have one yet, but I know for sure it'll be next purchase (a few months hopefully).

My first Ball was an Amber EVH, because Eddy plays this wonderful "new guitar".
I hate the day as I sell this gorgeous guitar  .

Steve Lukather was the first player that introduced me to Music Man guitars, I actully tried a Luke ages ago and liked it alot but I couldn't afford back then I was only 14-15:(

Later I learned that both Steve Morse and John Petrucci both (two of my biggest inflences along with Lukather) had their own signature models. So that told me it was a High quality brand.

But eventually it was when I tried a classmate's JP6 at age 17, that I got blown away with the I quality of the Music Man instruments. And today 3 balls richer, I know that EBMM will be my "go to company" as far as guitars are concerned:)

Maybe it's time to get that Luke now:rolleyes:

I have always been a music lover and an admirer of anyone who could make a guitar sound the way the great players beginning in the 60s and 70s could.

As for my someone influencing by purchasing EBMM guitars I would say it was when I noticed Steuart Smith with the Eagles on their Farewell I Tour DVD. That was the first time I had noticed EBMM guitars and I especially liked what I saw and the tones heard coming from Steuart's capable hands with his Vintage Sunburst Axis Super Sport. I know he played other EBMMs on the DVD but the ASS sounded so sweet.

The Vintage Sunburst ASS was my first purchase, ordered earlier this month. I could not wait for the ASS to arrive so I landed a new 20th silo. Then I really caught the fever and bought a white SS from JeffreyB.

Now I want a BFR Luke in Walnut Burst..... and the AL is starting to appeal to me.

Somebody stop me, please.

Definatley EVH ! When I started to play guitar I built up a collection of Wolfgangs, and later an EBMM EVH. I found the EBMM to be superior in every way. I have since sold 13 Wolfgangs, and begun the slow process of replacing them with EBMM EvH's.............

John Petrucci inspired me to try one. I first tried an EBMM at Good 'n' Loud in Madison. I tried an Axis Super Sport and a JP6. Eventually I got my beloved JP7.

Steve Morse. Or, to be more precise, his playing on the Deep Purple "Live at the Olympia" live album and their concert in Cologne in 1999.
