I've been thinking about this for a while now and I'm in a position (or will be in a few days) to get myself a NEW bass!

My first thought was of course a Gibson, but BP said if I did, I'd have to give up my secret decoder ring.

So I'm interested in what you guys would do if you were in my situation:

Um, well, ahem, yes, I think I did have a little Bongo problem for a while there, didn't I?

But my income was a little better back then, too. Now, I'm a washed-up, broken-down old retired guy so I have to plan more carefully.

so i voted for an HS Sr5 ...

why? well, to me the 2 pup Sterling is the holy grail, but as far as I know Jack's a 5 guy and it would be a bummer for ya to get a 4 string but then think "hmm, this rules but im a 5 string guy".

and HS over HH b/c well, as you said yourself the HS is more "refined" or something like that.

anywho .. you have been wanting an "regular" ray so the HH SR4 would get my 2nd vote.

selling MM's now im sure youll cut yourself one hell of a deal :)

First you bought all kind of Bongo's, and now you're telling us that you only goint to buy ONE of the new models?

Oh, he'll be buying 12 new models in Buttercream if he doesn't sell em before they're ready don't worry!

Yes, I remember the consultations clearly!

Steve: What should I do?
Jack: Hell, buy a bunch of those buttercreme models, you fool!
Steve: But I'm scared.
Jack: There is nothing to fear, girly-man! Buy the basses, quickly!
Steve: If you say so.

According to the current poll results, Jack, you're screwed. Virtually neck and neck, all options.

You'd best get a 5-string, whatever it is. I heard you tune my Stingray down to D last night, you naughty boy, you.

Yeah, it's a dead heat. What I'll probably do is look at the results from the people who know me best (poor bastards) and see if my thoughts coincide with theirs.

Or perhaps a Wishnevsky is in order!

And, as I've mentioned elsewhere, that Stingray of yours kicks serious boo-tay. Even through my cheap little Ampeg B-50R. I gained new respect for that tiny thing.

I voted for the HH Sterling (knowing it's a 4) with the hopes that Bo gets buyer's remorse by say...the end of November.

That way, I can offer to take it off his hands...kind of a mercy purchase!:D

You gotta get the HH SR5. That is going to be one serious mofo. As soon as you get it, call me so I can come over and get hooked. That way, at least one of the Buttercream SR5s can find it's way to my house. Maybe by the time they get there I'll have the coin to buy one. ;)

Larry, whatever I get, it won't be buttercreme because that order window is shut. The last day to order the BC finish was 31 August.

And - THIS IS NOT A SALES PITCH - that Steve Barr is one smart mofo. I was just thinking about this tonight. Knowing that:

a. no more orders were going to be taken on the BC finishes and
b. not very many dual pickup SRs or Sterlings had been ordered in that finish....

...he "put his trousers on" (as Dargin once suggested, heh heh) and ordered twelve basses in buttercreme. At first, I was thinking, "You're insane" but you know what?

If you now want a buttercreme SR4 with the HSC configuration, who you gonna call?
If you want a maple board SR5 in BC with dual hummers, who has one?
A Sterling in HH or HSC in BC finish?

Well, let's be honest, I still think he's insane, but this was a purdy smart move, if you ask me. Long after the buttercreme is unavailable, he'll have twelve (well, as of now, that may change tomorrow) basses when everyone else has zip.

How about that old Dude?

Anyway, I'm all hot for the Yemeni Haze finish now, but who knows what I'll want when the money actually comes in?

Sterling says I should buy - what else? - a Sterling (go figure) but I'm really a fiver guy now and probably need to admit it and deal with it.

But hey, I think I can still PLAY a four banger. It just feels weird.

YES.

I want it noted in the official transcript that I said NOTHING about a Sterling 5 string, and I'm not saying anything now, either.
